Viking Ptah launched in 2026 as one of the most intimate ships in the Viking River Cruises fleet. A few things stand out immediately:
All current sailings depart from Luxor, Egypt. Because every itinerary starts abroad, Luxor is reached by flying — and that is something CruiseAway handles as part of a complete package, which we cover below.
Viking Ptah carries six distinct places to eat, ranging from a fully included main restaurant to speciality venues where a reservation fee applies.
The Restaurant is the main dining room, its floor-to-ceiling windows giving river views as the ship moves between ports — included in your fare, with regional specialities alongside timeless classics. World Café offers open kitchens with live cooking and international dishes, and opens directly onto the Aquavit Terrace® where you can eat under the open sky with the Nile as your backdrop. For something lighter and quicker, the Pool Grill serves freshly prepared dishes poolside, with a small salad bar alongside — also included in your fare.
In the afternoon, the Wintergarden lays out a complimentary afternoon tea: finger sandwiches, fresh scones, pastries and international teas beside the main pool, with live classical music from the onboard musician.
For evenings when you want something more elaborate, Manfredi's Italian Restaurant® serves authentic Italian cuisine in a trattoria atmosphere, with a private dining room available for groups — cover charges apply here. The Chef's Table offers a multi-course tasting menu with sommelier-paired wines and requires a reservation at an additional cost. The Kitchen Table is an interactive culinary experience centred on regional ingredients and local food culture; confirm inclusion with your booking consultant. And throughout the voyage, Mamsen's®, located in the Explorers' Lounge, serves Norwegian specialities from breakfast through to dinner at no extra cost.
The social heart of the ship is The Living Room, a generous lounge where Viking Resident Musicians play live classical music and curated activities run throughout the day — entry is free, with beverages charged separately unless included in your package. Torshavn® channels a Hollywood jazz-lounge atmosphere for evening cocktails and live music, again complimentary to enter. The Explorers' Lounge wraps two-storey panoramic windows around the river views, while the Atrium provides a bright central meeting point. The Bar — the Clinker Bar in the Living Room atrium — is designed around a Nordic longship aesthetic.
Viking Ptah carries two pools. The Main Pool is heated and covered by a retractable roof, making it usable in any weather; an evening film screen runs poolside at night. The Infinity Pool features floor-to-ceiling windows that dissolve the boundary between ship and river, with a hot tub alongside — both pools are included in your fare.
The Nordic Spa is open to all guests at no charge; individual treatments and classes carry their own fees. The Fitness Centre provides treadmills, elliptical machines, exercise bikes and free-weight space, with equipment use complimentary. The Hair Salon offers cuts, styling and the Royal Nordic Hair Ritual, charged separately. On deck, the Sports Deck runs a track alongside boccie, mini golf and shuffleboard — included in your fare, with guided yoga classes charged extra.
For lectures, films and TED Talks, The Theater seats up to 450 and can be divided into two HD cinemas — all at no extra cost.
With 41 cabins across three grades, the ship is deliberately intimate. Full layouts and deck positions are shown on the Viking Ptah cabins and deck plans page.
All sailings currently on sale depart from Luxor, Egypt, on the Nile River. The itinerary window opens from late September 2026, with voyages of up to 7 nights. Because Luxor is reached only by flying, every booking involves an international flight from Australia — this is not a cruise you drive or sail to. CruiseAway treats it as a complete holiday: our DreamAway Packages cover the cruise, the return flights, hotel nights either side and all transfers as one booking. Prices for Nile sailings on Viking Ptah start from A$10,995pp*.
Every sailing to Egypt requires flying, which means the cruise is really the centrepiece of a longer trip. CruiseAway's cruise experts know these itineraries and will advise on which cabin grade — and which fare inclusions — make sense for your travel style. Because the flights, hotels and airport transfers are all handled through our DreamAway Packages, you have one contact, one booking and one less thing to worry about. We also back every booking with our Best Price Guarantee.
If you are weighing up ships before deciding, Viking Astrild and Viking Forseti are two other river ships in the Viking fleet available to browse. For ocean voyages, Viking Sea, Viking Star and Viking Sky are further options, as is Viking Ullur. Each sails a different programme, so it is worth comparing itineraries side by side.
Yes. Every current sailing departs from Luxor, Egypt, so flying from Australia is part of every trip. CruiseAway can include return flights, pre- or post-cruise hotel nights in Egypt and all transfers in a single DreamAway Package booking, so nothing is left to arrange independently.
The Standard Stateroom B suits travellers who want a comfortable river-view cabin at the most accessible price point. The Veranda Stateroom A adds a private outdoor space with sliding glass doors, which makes a meaningful difference on a river itinerary where the scenery is the draw. The Explorer Suite ES is the right choice if you want the most space — 48.8 m² — or if you value having the Silver Spirits beverage package, laundry and in-room breakfast already included. Our cruise experts can talk through the trade-offs for your specific sailing dates.
The core fare covers The Restaurant and World Café dining, the Pool Grill, Mamsen's, the Wintergarden afternoon tea, both pools, The Nordic Spa access, the Fitness Centre, The Theater, the Sports Deck and The Living Room. Speciality restaurants — Manfredi's Italian Restaurant®, The Chef's Table and The Kitchen Table — carry additional charges or reservation fees, as do most beverages unless you have selected a package that includes them.
Viking Ptah carries a maximum of 82 guests. With 48 crew aboard, the staff-to-guest ratio is unusually close for a river ship, which shapes everything from dining pace to how quickly questions are answered at Guest Services.
Current departures depart from late September 2026 on Nile River itineraries of up to 7 nights. For the full list of sailings, dates and fares, visit the Viking River Cruises page on CruiseAway where every bookable departure is listed.
