Viking Amun entered service in 2025 as part of the Viking River Cruises fleet. She was purpose-built for the Nile, carrying 82 passengers looked after by a crew of 48 — a ratio that shapes every interaction on board. With 41 cabins across her decks, she is an intimate vessel by any river-ship measure, and that intimacy is the point.
Current sailings depart from Luxor and run for up to seven nights. Because Egypt is the destination, every booking involves an international flight — see below for how CruiseAway handles that.
Viking Amun offers three cabin grades, each designed to bring the Nile inside the room. Full deck plans and cabin-by-cabin details are on the Viking Amun cabins and deck plans page.
The main dining room is The Restaurant, an included venue serving regional specialities and classic dishes with river views through floor-to-ceiling windows. For everyday variety, the World Café on Deck 7 Aft runs open kitchens with live cooking, international dishes and premium sushi options, and opens onto the Aquavit Terrace® for al-fresco meals directly above the water.
The Pool Grill on Deck 7 keeps casual daytime dining simple — fresh-cooked plates and a salad bar beside the pool, all included in the fare. For afternoon ritual, the Wintergarden on Deck 7 Midship serves complimentary afternoon tea: finger sandwiches, scones, pastries and international teas accompanied by live classical music. Mamsen's®, tucked into the Explorers' Lounge on Deck 7, adds Norwegian home-cooking to the mix at no extra charge, from breakfast through to dinner.
Two speciality venues carry an additional charge. Manfredi's Italian Restaurant® on Aft Deck 1 offers authentic Italian trattoria dining with a private dining room option. The Chef's Table, also on Aft Deck 1, delivers a multi-course tasting menu with sommelier-paired wines. The Kitchen Table on Deck 1 Aft is an interactive culinary experience built around local ingredients and cooking techniques — confirm inclusion when booking.
The Living Room sits at the heart of the ship and is the natural gathering point: generous seating, a calm atmosphere and live classical music from the Viking Resident Musicians. Adjacent to it, the Clinker Bar draws on Nordic longship design for a distinctive drinks setting. Torshavn® channels the golden age of jazz lounges for evenings with cocktails and live music. The Explorers' Lounge pairs two-storey panoramic windows with the spirit of grand voyages of discovery — and is also home to Mamsen's. The Atrium rounds out the social spaces as a light-filled meeting point for cocktails and conversation. Beverages are charged separately at most venues unless a beverage package is included in your fare.
Viking Amun carries two pool options. The main pool has a retractable roof, making it usable in any weather and doubling as an outdoor cinema screen in the evenings. The infinity pool — one of the first of its kind at sea — features floor-to-ceiling windows creating the sensation of swimming within the landscape itself, with a hot tub alongside and the Aquavit Terrace® for evening dining nearby.
The Nordic Spa offers complimentary access to the sauna and snow grotto; individual treatments are charged separately. The Fitness Centre is fully equipped with treadmills, elliptical machines, exercise bikes and open space for free weights, yoga and pilates — use of the equipment is complimentary. The Sports Deck adds a running track, boccie, mini golf and shuffleboard, all included, with some guided classes charged separately. The Hair Salon is available for styling and the Royal Nordic Hair Ritual, at an additional cost.
The Theater seats up to 450 guests for lectures, films and TED Talks, and can be split into two HD cinemas — all included in the fare. Guest Services operates around the clock to handle shore excursions, restaurant reservations and any special arrangements ashore.
Every current sailing departs from Luxor, Egypt, cruising the Nile River for up to seven nights. Because all departures require an international flight from Australia, this is naturally the middle of a longer trip. CruiseAway's DreamAway Packages are built precisely for this: our cruise experts combine the cruise itself with flights, hotels either side and transfers into one holiday, priced and booked together. You are not left to assemble the pieces yourself.
Current sailings from A$10,995pp* are available departing from late September 2026, and the one sailing on sale carries a discount. Browse availability and see full itineraries for the Nile River on our Viking River Cruises offers page.
If you are weighing up which Viking vessel suits your plans, the fleet includes several ocean-going ships you may also be considering: Viking Sea, Viking Star and Viking Sky are all other ships in the same fleet. For river cruising specifically, Viking Astrild, Viking Forseti and Viking Ullur are further options worth looking at.
All sailings currently on sale through CruiseAway sail the Nile River, departing from Luxor, Egypt. There are no Mediterranean or other itineraries available at this time.
Every sailing departs from Egypt, so an international flight from Australia is required. CruiseAway can include flights, pre- or post-cruise hotels and transfers as part of a DreamAway Package, putting the entire trip on one booking rather than leaving you to coordinate separately.
With only 41 cabins on board, demand across all grades is strong. The Veranda Stateroom (A) is the most popular choice for couples wanting private outdoor space. The Explorer Suite suits guests who want the most room or are travelling as a family of up to four. Our cruise experts can talk through which grade best fits your travel style and budget — all backed by our Best Price Guarantee.
Viking Amun carries a maximum of 82 passengers, attended by 48 crew members. The experience is deliberately intimate — there are no large crowds at the pool or in the dining room, and you are unlikely to queue for anything.
Access to The Nordic Spa — including the sauna and snow grotto — is complimentary for all guests. Individual treatments and any specialist classes are charged separately. The Fitness Centre is also free to use; some guided fitness classes may carry an additional fee.
