Viking Anubis is a river cruise ship built specifically for the Nile, set to launch in 2027 under the Viking River Cruises flag. A few figures that help size her up:
Because every sailing departs from Egypt, getting there is part of the planning — see the booking section below for how CruiseAway handles that.
Viking Anubis offers two cabin grades, both sleeping two guests and both designed to make the most of the river scenery outside your window. Full layouts and deck-by-deck positions are on the Viking Anubis cabins and deck plans page.
At 22.2 m², the Veranda Stateroom A gives you a full-size private veranda with direct river access — a useful thing to have when you're drifting past ancient temple banks at dawn or dusk. It's the ideal perch for morning coffee before the day's excursions begin.
The Explorer Suite ES stretches to 48.8 m² and includes a separate sitting room alongside the main sleeping area, making it the most spacious accommodation on the ship. If you want room to spread out and a dedicated space to relax between shore visits, this is the grade to consider. Prices for current sailings start from A$12,695pp*.
Viking Anubis carries a thoughtful range of dining venues, from the inclusive main restaurant to speciality experiences that carry a separate charge.
The Restaurant is the ship's main dining room, included in your cruise fare, serving regional specialities and timeless classics through floor-to-ceiling windows with river views. For casual daytime eating, the Pool Grill on Deck 7 turns out freshly prepared dishes beside the water, also included in your fare.
The World Café on Deck 7 Aft takes an open-kitchen approach, with live cooking and international dishes — step inside or out onto the Aquavit Terrace® to eat with the river as your backdrop. Both are covered by your onboard credit. The Wintergarden (Deck 7 Midship) hosts complimentary afternoon tea with finger sandwiches, scones, pastries and live classical music. Mamsen's® on Deck 7 brings Norwegian specialities into the Explorers' Lounge at no extra cost, from breakfast through to dinner.
For something more considered, The Chef's Table offers a multi-course tasting menu with matched wines — reservations are required and à la carte pricing applies. Manfredi's Italian Restaurant® delivers an authentic trattoria experience with a private dining room option, also at a cover charge. The Kitchen Table is an interactive culinary experience centred on local ingredients and cooking techniques; confirm inclusions when you book.
Viking Anubis carries several social spaces, all open to every guest. The Living Room sits at the heart of the ship with generous seating, live classical music from the Viking Resident Musicians and curated activities — beverages and food are charged separately unless your package covers them. The Explorers' Lounge wraps two-storey panoramic windows around you while you settle in with a drink; the adjacent Mamsen's® means you're never far from a snack.
Torshavn® channels a golden-age jazz lounge atmosphere with live music and premium spirits (beverages charged separately). The Atrium and the Bar — styled around the Nordic longship tradition inside the Living Room atrium — offer further spots to meet fellow guests, with beverages charged separately. The Pool Bar keeps cocktails and coffees close to the water.
The Theater seats up to 450 guests for lectures, films and TED Talks, and can be split into two HD cinemas — admission is included in your fare.
The Nordic Spa is open to all guests at no charge; individual treatments and classes carry a separate fee. Inside you'll find a sauna and snow grotto alongside the complimentary Fitness Center, which is equipped with treadmills, elliptical machines and exercise bikes, with space for yoga and pilates (some classes charged separately). The Hair Salon offers cuts, styling and the Royal Nordic Hair Ritual at a charge.
On deck, the Sports Deck has a running track alongside boccie, mini golf and shuffleboard — all included in your fare, with guided classes such as yoga charged separately. The Main Pool with Retractable Roof keeps swimming possible in any weather and screens films on a large poolside screen in the evening, while the Infinity Pool — with floor-to-ceiling windows and a hot tub — creates the feeling of floating at the edge of your destination.
The Guest Services team is on hand around the clock for shore excursions, restaurant reservations and any arrangements you need ashore, at no charge.
Every Viking Anubis sailing departs from Luxor, Egypt, which means flying is part of the journey — the cruise is the middle of a longer trip. CruiseAway's DreamAway Packages are built exactly for this: we book the flights, the hotel either side and the transfers alongside your cruise, pulling it all into one holiday so nothing falls between the gaps. Our cruise experts can walk you through cabin grades, fare inclusions and shore excursion options to make sure the package suits your plans. Whatever you choose, it all sits on one booking.
Viking Anubis is built for launch in 2027. Sailings currently on sale through CruiseAway depart from late September 2026 onward, so it is worth checking availability early as inventory on a ship this size — just 41 cabins — moves quickly.
Viking Anubis sails the Nile River, with departures from Luxor, Egypt. Current sailings run up to 7 nights. Because all departures are from Egypt, flying from Australia is part of every itinerary — CruiseAway can package flights, transfers and hotel nights alongside your cruise.
The main restaurant, World Café, Aquavit Terrace, Pool Grill, Wintergarden afternoon tea, Mamsen's, the main pool, infinity pool, sports deck, fitness centre, Nordic Spa access and The Theater are all included. Speciality dining venues such as The Chef's Table and Manfredi's carry a separate charge, as do most beverages, individual spa treatments and some fitness classes.
If a private outdoor space matters — somewhere to sit with the Nile moving past you — the Veranda Stateroom A at 22.2 m² delivers that at the entry grade. If you want a separate sitting room and the most generous footprint on the ship, the Explorer Suite ES at 48.8 m² is the choice. Our cruise experts can help you weigh up the two grades against the sailings that still have availability.
Yes — if you're weighing up options within the Viking fleet, you can browse Viking Astrild and Viking Forseti as other river ships in the fleet, or look at ocean-going options such as Viking Sea, Viking Star, Viking Sky and Viking Ullur.
