The Independence of the Seas is a Freedom-class ship from Royal Caribbean. With 14 decks and 1,440 crew to look after the 3,858 guests the ship is one of the biggest cruise ships at sea.
On board the ship you can enjoy a range of activities and entertainment, there is always something to keep you interested. If you’re after activities then there is the famous FlwoRider surf simulator on the sports deck. Also on this deck are the rock climbing walls and basketball/hockey courts.

Dining options include the main complimentary dining area, with other comp options including the Windjammer Café, Jade Sushi and Asian-fusion and Sorrento’s Pizza. On board there are also great specialty restaurants like the Chops Grille Steakhouse and the Giovanni’s Table Italian restaurant. Accommodation on board the Independence of the Seas ranges from comfortable interior rooms to luxurious suite options. You can choose from comfortable inner cabins, outer cabins with or without a balcony, and from different suites. No matter what you decide, all cabin types are comfortable and tastefully decorated.

Dining Information

The Independence of the Seas features numerous theme bars and restaurants. Try the Italian specialty restaurant, “Portofino”, or grilled specialties at the “Chops Grille Steakhouse”, then round off the evening with a glass of fine wine at the “Vintages” wine bar.


An extensive entertainment programme is available on board the Independence of the Seas, which includes evening shows in the theatre, parades in the Royal Promenade, karaoke nights and movies in the cinema.


A miniature golf course, climbing wall, day spa and a gymnasium are available to all passengers. Guests are also welcome to take part in different fitness classes, such as yoga and tai chi.


The Royal Promenade is the perfect place for a shopping spree with its numerous shops and boutiques.

Dress Code

Sporty, casual clothing is recommended by day. Depending on the programme, it’s best to pack a choice of casual and business casual clothing, as well as elegant formalwear for special evening events. Sturdy, comfortable footwear is essential for land excursions.

All persons under the age of 18 are considered minors when travelling with Royal Caribbean cruises. Both minors and young adults (between the ages of 18 and 21) are required to travel with an adult supervisor.

Built in Turku, Finland like other ships operated by the world-renowned Royal Caribbean International, it forms one of three of the colossal ships in the Freedom Class. Get ready to travel to breathtaking locations across the Caribbean, North America (including the United State East Coast), Central America, Northern and Western Europe, the Mediterranean, the Baltic and Africa.

Enjoy the most delicious meals on the Independence of the Seas

Whether you are a gastronomical expert or just like to eat good hearty meals, the MS Independence of the Seas has it all. The Main Dining Room is a fantastic location to eat at any time of the day and with a changing evening dinner menu, no two nights will ever be the same! For a delicious buffet with a great view, visit the Windjammer Café which has a wide range of foods and desserts. The Café Promenade offers the most delicious coffee, pasties and sandwiches which can be enjoyed at any time. The tastiest New York pizza can be enjoyed at Sorrento’s Pizza where different types are available for your dining pleasure. Jade Sushi gives you a chance to feast upon the best healthy and appetising Japanese dishes, not just delectable sushi but also fusion dishes amongst others. If you would like something special then pop by to the Chops Grille steakhouse which has the highest quality steak cooked to perfection along with many other dishes including seafood, there is an additional charge for this restaurant but it is definitely worth it. The Portofino restaurant serves unmistakably tasty Italian fare in relaxed and classy surroundings. Fast food can be gotten at Johnny Rockets where there is a small charge but some of the nicest burgers you will ever try. Kosher meals are also available if booked in advance. If however you fancy staying in your room to eat then feel free to call the room service at any time of the day.

Activities aboard the Independence

Take part in the unrivalled range of activities available aboard the Independence of the Seas. In much the same way as the incredible dining experiences available aboard the Independence of the Seas, there is also a wide range of activities with which to engage yourself made possible by the ship’s large size and desire to accommodate every kind of passenger possible. Have you ever wanted to try surfing but never had the chance? Then take part in the Flowrider® surf simulator! Scale the waves and have fun with your friends and family on this ingenious adventure. Feeling adventurous? Try the rock climbing experience which feels even more exhilarating with the view of the sea around you. Ice skating is a popular past time aboard the Independence of the Seas, where you can glide gracefully across the ice. For those of you who are healthy and active there is the full sized basketball court available to try your skills or against opponents for an exciting game. Try a game of mini golf and have a friendly match in the open air. Younger passengers need not feel left out as there are a number of specially designated activities and areas for their use. From a mere 6 months old to 17 years old there are always things to do to keep occupied. Babies and toddlers can take part in the Aqua Babies and Aqua Tots Programs, for those between the ages of 3 and 17 there is an Adventure Ocean Youth Program where they can have fun and learn simultaneously. As the strains of everyday life can be too much, it is worth going to the Vitality Spa where you can enjoy a number of wonderful treatments including facials, massages, body wraps, body scrubs, acupuncture, Botox, tooth whitening, manicures and special treatments for teenagers.
