About Viking Sobek

CruiseAway is proud to offer sailings aboard Viking Sobek, Viking River Cruises' purpose-built Nile ship that launched in 2024. With capacity for just 82 guests, this is an uncommonly intimate way to travel Egypt's most iconic waterway. Our cruise experts will help you choose the right cabin grade and fare inclusions, and — because every sailing involves a flight — we can arrange the whole trip as one of our DreamAway Packages: flights, hotel stays either side, transfers and the cruise itself, all on a single booking.

Cabins on Viking Sobek

Viking Sobek offers three cabin grades, each distinct in space and outlook — full details, including deck plans, are on the Viking Sobek cabins and deck plans page.

The Standard Stateroom B is an outside cabin of 21.6 m², sleeping two, with a half-height picture window that brings natural light and daytime river views into the room without stepping onto a deck. It is the entry point to the ship and a smart choice for those who plan to spend most of their time ashore.

The Veranda Stateroom A covers 22.2 m² and sleeps two. Its defining feature is a private veranda off the sleeping quarters — a rare find at stateroom pricing on a river ship, and the right choice for anyone who wants to watch the Nile at dawn from their own outdoor space.

For the most generous accommodation on board, the Explorer Suite ES offers 48.8 m² and sleeps up to four. A personal coffee machine with premium coffee and tea selections is included, along with complimentary in-room beverage service — practical extras that make a meaningful difference on a longer stay.

Dining on Viking Sobek

Viking Sobek's main dining room, The Restaurant, is included in your cruise fare and serves regional specialities alongside timeless classics through floor-to-ceiling windows with river views. For more casual meals, the Pool Grill offers freshly prepared dishes and a salad bar poolside, also included in your fare.

The World Café brings open kitchens with live cooking and a choice of international dishes, premium sushi and seafood, with the option to dine alfresco at the Aquavit Terrace® — an outdoor dining space directly above the water, where your destination becomes the backdrop to every meal.

Afternoon tea is served complimentary in the Wintergarden alongside the main pool, with finger sandwiches, fresh scones, pastries and classical music from the ship's resident musician. Mamsen's®, located in the Explorers' Lounge, serves Norwegian specialities from breakfast through dinner at no extra charge, honouring the Nordic heritage of the Viking brand.

For special occasions, three speciality venues carry additional charges. Manfredi's Italian Restaurant® recreates an Italian trattoria with authentic regional cooking and a private dining room option. The Chef's Table offers a multi-course tasting menu with sommelier-paired wines. The Kitchen Table is an interactive culinary experience built around local ingredients and cooking techniques — ideal for guests who want to engage with Egyptian food culture, not just taste it.

Bars, lounges and entertainment

The social heart of Viking Sobek is The Living Room, a generous bar and lounge where Viking Resident Musicians perform live classical music and curated activities bring guests together. Entry is complimentary; beverages are charged separately unless covered by your package.

For a different atmosphere, Torshavn® delivers live music in a setting inspired by Hollywood's golden age of jazz lounges — a relaxed evening option with cocktails or premium spirits. The Explorers' Lounge frames the passing river through two-storey panoramic windows, taking its inspiration from the great voyages of discovery. The Atrium and the Clinker Bar — the latter designed to evoke the lines of ancient Norse longships — round out the onboard bar options.

The Theater seats up to 450 guests for lectures, films and TED Talks, and can be divided into two HD cinemas depending on the programme. Admission is included in your cruise fare.

Pools, spa and sports on Viking Sobek

Viking Sobek carries two pools. The Main Pool with Retractable Roof is heated and usable in any weather, with a retractable roof for year-round swimming; in the evening the large poolside screen shows films under the open sky. The Infinity Pool, one of the first of its kind on a river ship, features floor-to-ceiling windows that make you feel as though you are swimming at the edge of your destination, with a hot tub alongside and access to the Aquavit Terrace for evening dining.

The Nordic Spa is open to all guests at no charge; the sauna and snow grotto are included, while individual treatments are charged separately. The Fitness Center provides treadmills, ellipticals and exercise bikes along with open space for yoga and pilates, all complimentary. The Hair Salon offers a full range of styling services, including the Royal Nordic Hair Ritual, at a charge. Up on the Sports Deck, guests can use the running track, boccie, mini golf and shuffleboard — all included, with some guided classes available at an additional cost.

Sailing the Nile from Luxor

Every current sailing on Viking Sobek departs from Luxor, Egypt on itineraries of up to seven nights along the Nile River. Because Egypt requires a flight from Australia, every booking involves international travel — which is exactly where CruiseAway's DreamAway Packages are built to help. We combine the cruise with your flights, hotel nights before and after, and all transfers, so the entire trip is arranged and protected in one place. Our cruise experts are on hand to match you with the right cabin and inclusions for the journey.

Sailings from Luxor are currently on sale from A$11,195pp*, with departures from September 2026.

Why book Viking Sobek with CruiseAway

CruiseAway offers a Best Price Guarantee across our range, so you can book with confidence knowing you are getting the sharpest fare we can offer. Our cruise experts know Viking River Cruises' Nile product in detail — they can walk you through the difference between cabin grades, explain what is and isn't included in each fare, and make sure the itinerary fits the wider trip you have in mind. And because Luxor is not a port you sail to from home, we put everything — cruise, flights, pre- and post-cruise hotels, and transfers — onto a single DreamAway Package booking, so nothing falls through the gaps.

Which cabin grade is right for me on Viking Sobek?

Does Viking River Cruises operate other ships I could consider?

For ocean itineraries, Viking Sea, Viking Star and Viking Sky are further options from the same cruise line. The full range of Viking River Cruises offers is listed on the cruise line page.

Do I need to arrange my own flights to Luxor?

All sailings currently on sale depart from Luxor, Egypt, which means every guest travelling from Australia will need international flights. CruiseAway can arrange the entire trip — flights, pre- and post-cruise hotel stays, transfers and the cruise itself — as a single DreamAway Package, removing the need to piece the journey together separately.
