Viking Hathor entered service in 2024 as one of the smallest ships in the Viking River Cruises fleet, purpose-built for the River Nile. Her 41 cabins and suites accommodate up to 82 guests, served by a crew of 48 — a ratio that keeps the experience feeling personal and unhurried.
All current sailings depart from Luxor, Egypt, making her a natural fit for travellers who want to explore Upper Egypt's temples and tombs at a relaxed pace from a well-appointed floating base.
Viking Hathor offers three cabin grades, and every one of them sleeps up to four guests — making her a practical choice for families or friends sharing a cabin. Full layout details are on the Viking Hathor cabins and deck plans page.
With fares from A$11,695pp* on current departures, there is a grade to suit a range of budgets. Our cruise experts can walk you through exactly what each fare includes before you commit.
The main dining room — simply called The Restaurant — is included in your fare and serves regional specialities alongside timeless classics, with floor-to-ceiling windows framing the river. For casual bites poolside, the Pool Grill offers freshly prepared dishes and a salad bar at no extra charge.
The World Café takes an open-kitchen approach, with live cooking stations and international dishes including premium sushi and seafood — also included, with the option to spill out onto the Aquavit Terrace® and dine under open sky directly above the water. The Wintergarden hosts a complimentary afternoon tea, complete with finger sandwiches, scones and classical music.
For something more special, Manfredi's Italian Restaurant® recreates an Italian trattoria atmosphere with authentic regional cuisine; cover charges apply and reservations are recommended. The Chef's Table offers a multi-course tasting menu with sommelier-paired wines, also at an additional charge. The Kitchen Table goes further still — an interactive culinary experience built around local ingredients and cooking techniques; confirm the pricing when you book. Norwegian flavours are available all day at Mamsen's®, tucked inside the Explorers' Lounge and included at no extra cost.
At the social heart of the ship, The Living Room brings guests together with generous seating, a calm atmosphere and live classical music from Viking's Resident Musicians — entry is included, with beverages charged separately unless covered by your package. The Clinker Bar sits within the Living Room atrium and takes its design cues from ancient Nordic longships, creating a distinctive setting for pre-dinner drinks.
Torshavn® evokes Hollywood's golden age of jazz lounges, with live music and cocktails most evenings (beverages charged separately). The Explorers' Lounge wraps two-storey panoramic windows around a relaxed space ideal for watching the riverbanks change as you travel, while the Atrium serves as a central meeting point with a generous, airy feel.
The Theater seats up to 450 guests for lectures, films, TED Talks and documentaries — all included — and can be configured as two separate HD cinemas. It is a particularly good fit for a cultural itinerary like the Nile, where the enrichment programme complements what guests see ashore.
The Nordic Spa is open to all guests at no charge; the sauna, snow grotto and relaxation areas are included, with individual treatments and classes charged separately. The Fitness Center provides treadmills, elliptical machines, exercise bikes and free-weight space — also complimentary, with some classes charged. The Hair Salon offers a full menu of styling services and the Royal Nordic Hair Ritual, charged separately.
On deck, the Main Pool with Retractable Roof keeps swimming possible in any weather, and doubles as an outdoor cinema in the evenings. The Infinity Pool features floor-to-ceiling windows that blur the line between the water and the landscape outside, plus a hot tub and the adjacent Aquavit Terrace for evening dining. The Sports Deck offers a running track, boccie, mini golf and shuffleboard — all included.
Every Viking Hathor sailing currently on sale departs from Luxor, Egypt, on itineraries of up to seven nights along the Nile River. Luxor sits at the heart of Upper Egypt's ancient sites — the Valley of the Kings, Karnak and Luxor Temple are all within reach — and a river cruise is the traditional and most practical way to connect them.
Because all sailings require you to fly to Egypt first, this is a trip that really benefits from being built as one holiday. Through CruiseAway's DreamAway Packages, we handle the cruise, the flights, hotel nights either side and all transfers on a single booking, removing the need to piece it together yourself. Our cruise experts can advise on which cabin grade and fare inclusions suit your travel style best.
Viking Hathor accommodates a maximum of 82 passengers across her 41 cabins, with 48 crew on board. That ratio means attentive service and a quieter, more personal feel than larger vessels.
No — CruiseAway can wrap flights, hotel nights and transfers around your Nile sailing through a DreamAway Package, so everything is on one booking. All current departures embark in Egypt, so flights from Australia are part of the journey for every guest.
The Outside Stateroom B is the entry point, with a river-view picture window and space for up to four guests at 21.6 m². If a private outdoor space matters to you, the Veranda Stateroom A adds a personal veranda for a modest step up. The Explorer Suite ES at 48.8 m² is the most spacious option and includes a full-size veranda — worth considering for longer stays or those who want a genuine living area. Our cruise experts can match you to the right grade for your group.
The main dining venues — The Restaurant, World Café, Pool Grill, Aquavit Terrace, Mamsen's and the Wintergarden afternoon tea — are all included. So are the Main Pool, Infinity Pool, Sports Deck, the Nordic Spa (treatments extra), the Fitness Center and all entertainment in The Theater. Specialty dining at Manfredi's, The Chef's Table and The Kitchen Table carries an additional charge, as do most beverages unless you have a package.
