Where do 2028 repositioning cruises go from Australia?

Every sailing here is a one-way ocean voyage departing in 2028, and all of them leave from an Australian port. Sydney is the dominant departure point, with Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth (Fremantle) also on the roster. Because these are point-to-point voyages, the ship finishes in a different city — Singapore, Honolulu, Seattle, Southampton, Cape Town or Vancouver. If you live near the departure port you can walk on with no flight at all; if you're travelling from another state, a short domestic hop to the embarkation city is still far easier than a long-haul international flight — and we can book that connection, along with a hotel the night before and a transfer to the terminal, as part of your package. At the far end, we'll sort the homeward flight, hotels either side and any tours you want.

Which regions do these voyages cover?

The mix runs from close-to-home waters through to serious long-haul crossings — here is where the voyages are concentrated, in order of availability.

Close to home — Australian coastal waters, South East Asia, the Pacific and New Zealand

Australia leads the page. These coastal repositioning sailings hug the continent's own shoreline, making them a natural fit if you want a genuine long voyage without leaving the hemisphere. South East Asia is the next biggest draw, with sailings finishing in Singapore — a city that makes a strong pre- or post-cruise destination in its own right. French Polynesia voyages carry the ship across the South Pacific, stopping among island groups that sit well beyond the standard Australian cruise circuit. A New Zealand sailing rounds out the near-region options for those who want to cross the Tasman.

The long haul — transpacific crossings and round-the-world passages

Three transpacific sailings make the full crossing from Australian waters to North America, finishing in Honolulu, Seattle or Vancouver — a genuine ocean passage that takes weeks rather than days. And for those who want to go further still, one round-the-world voyage calls at ports across multiple continents. Voyages range from 11 nights to 69 nights, with a median of around 21 nights, so there is a length to suit both a committed holiday-maker and someone planning a once-in-a-generation journey. If a flight home is part of the equation at either end, our team books it alongside the cruise so nothing is left to chance.

Which cruise lines offer 2028 repositioning sailings?

Princess Cruises leads the page with the most departures, followed by Cunard, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line. Azamara Cruises rounds out the line-up with a pair of boutique-style sailings. DreamAway Packages — CruiseAway's own cruise-plus-flights-hotels-and-transfers bundles — also appear across the results, which is the easiest way to get everything wrapped into one booking if you're flying to or from either end of the voyage.

Ships sailing these repositioning voyages in 2028

Norwegian Spirit — Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian Spirit is a mid-sized ship with a relaxed, no-fixed-dining feel that suits a longer voyage well. At Spice H2O, the adults-only open-air beach club, sun-soaked afternoons come with cocktails and sea breezes — a hard combination to beat on a transpacific crossing. When you're ready to eat, Cagney's Steakhouse and Le Bistro both welcome walk-ins at any hour, and live shows at the Stardust Theatre fill the evenings. See the Norwegian Spirit cabins and deck plans before you choose your grade.

  • Family Inside I4 — 13.8 m², sleeps 4. Flexible for larger groups, on lower price points.
  • Deluxe Sea-view O3 — 26.7 m², sleeps 3. The largest sea-view grade on board, with nearly twice the space of a standard ocean-view cabin.
  • Balcony BA — 15.9 m², sleeps 3. Your own private balcony with sea views — the step up that counts on a multi-week crossing.
  • Owner's Suite SB — 56.2 m², sleeps 2. A separate bedroom, living and dining area, walk-in wardrobe and a private aft balcony — the most spacious suite on the ship.

Queen Anne — Cunard

Cunard's newest ship, Queen Anne launched in 2024 and brings Art Deco elegance with a modern edge. The Carinthia Lounge serves cocktails with live music most evenings, and the grand Queens Room ballroom is exactly what you picture when you think of a Cunard crossing. The Golden Lion pub serves a menu developed with Michelin-starred chef Michael Roux — proper British pub food, mid-ocean. For the full picture on what's available, browse the Queen Anne cabins and deck plans.

  • Britannia Inside IA — 13.7 m², sleeps 2. Comes with a personal cabin steward available around the clock and daily turndown service.
  • Britannia Deluxe Ocean-view EA — 21.9 m², sleeps 2. Around 3 m² more than a standard ocean-view cabin, with a separate seating area.
  • Britannia Club Balcony A1 — 21.9 m², sleeps 2. Includes exclusive access to the Britannia Club Restaurant with a reserved table — a more intimate dining experience than the main restaurant.
  • Queens Grill Grand Suite Q1 — 133.8 m², sleeps 2. The largest suite category on board, more than twice the size of the next tier down.

Grand Princess — Princess Cruises

Grand Princess brings Princess's signature outdoor movie screen to its Australian coastal repositioning sailings — order a blanket, settle into a deck chair and watch a film above the Coral Sea. The Princess app lets you order cocktails poolside or pizza to your cabin without queuing at a bar. The Sanctuary, an adults-only top-deck retreat, offers sun loungers, light meals and uninterrupted ocean views. Check the Grand Princess cabins and deck plans for the full layout.

  • Inside IA — 14.9 m², sleeps 4. Positioned on middle decks for minimal ship movement and easy access to lifts.
  • Premium Sea View O3 — 19.1 m², sleeps 4. Floor-to-ceiling panoramic window with an unobstructed sea view.
  • Premium Balcony B2 — 25.5 m², sleeps 4. Floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors give an open-plan feel and a private outdoor space.
  • Grand Suite S1 — 67.8 m², sleeps 4. The largest suite on the ship, with a private hot tub. Considerably more space than any other suite category.

Royal Princess — Princess Cruises

The glass-bottomed SeaWalk extends 40 metres out over the ocean — nothing but blue water below your feet and open sky above. The Sanctuary adults-only retreat sits at the top of the ship with attentive stewards on hand, while duelling pianos at Crooners and a dancing fountain light show bring the evenings to life. See the Royal Princess cabins and deck plans for a full breakdown of grades and layouts.

Voyager of the Seas — Royal Caribbean

Voyager of the Seas carries a real ice rink, waterslides and a Broadway-style theatre — enough to fill a long crossing for any age group. The adults-only Solarium is the quiet counterpart, while Adventure Ocean keeps younger passengers occupied with age-specific activities. See the Voyager of the Seas cabins and deck plans.

Anthem of the Seas — Royal Caribbean

Anthem of the Seas is known for the North Star observation pod, which lifts guests above the ship in a glass capsule for views across the ocean. The FlowRider surf simulator and SeaPlex — a multi-use indoor sports and entertainment venue — keep active passengers busy, while the glass-domed Solarium pool is the adults' retreat after a day at sea. Browse the Anthem of the Seas cabins and deck plans.

What fare types are available on 2028 repositioning cruises?

Princess Cruises offers two main tiers. The Princess Standard fare covers the cruise itself, with drinks, Wi-Fi and dining available as add-ons. The Princess Plus fare bundles four casual dining meals per voyage, beverages up to A$15 each (up to 15 drinks per day), MedallionNet Max Wi-Fi, pre-paid crew appreciation, unlimited digital photos plus 3 prints, and reserved theatre seating — good value for a longer repositioning voyage where those costs add up.

Cunard fares include the flexible Cunard Fare, which lets you choose your stateroom number, amend bookings up to the balance due date and pay just a 15% deposit. A Saver fare is also available — lowest price in exchange for a pre-allocated stateroom and full payment at booking. Cunard's 2027–2028 season has more detail on what each tier covers.

Royal Caribbean fare types include standard cruise fares, a solo traveller fare for single-occupancy bookings, and last-minute offers and promotional fare types such as guest-number discounts — check current availability with our team, as these change regularly.

Are there discounts on 2028 repositioning sailings?

A number of sailings carry a reduction from the price previously listed for that cabin grade. The deepest reduction on any single departure reaches up to 19%, though that applies to one sailing only; most reduced sailings are discounted by around 5%. Our Best Price Guarantee means that if you find the same fare cheaper elsewhere after booking, we'll match it.

Make it a complete holiday

A one-way voyage by definition finishes somewhere other than where you started. CruiseAway can build the whole trip — domestic or international flights to the embarkation port, a hotel the night before departure, transfers to the terminal, and the homeward flight and hotels at the far end, all on a single booking. Our DreamAway Packages wrap cruise, flights and accommodation into one price, or our cruise experts can build something bespoke around your schedule. We can also add travel insurance and shore tours so nothing is left as a loose end.

Prices start from A$2,449 pp* for 2028 repositioning voyages. Our cruise experts are available to help you match the right ship, grade and fare to your plans — whether that's a 3-week coastal sailing or a 69-night circumnavigation.

For coastal departures, the 28-day cruise around Australia page and Sydney to New Zealand sailings are worth a look. If you're considering departing from Fremantle, the dedicated Fremantle to Singapore 2028 page covers that route in full.
