What is a repositioning cruise and why sail one in 2027?

A repositioning cruise is a one-way voyage made when a ship moves between its seasonal home and its next deployment. Every sailing is one-way: the ship departs from an Australian port and arrives somewhere else entirely — Singapore, Honolulu, Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, Southampton or Cape Town. That structure is the whole point. You get a longer voyage at a lower per-night cost than a round trip, you arrive somewhere new rather than circling back, and the onward journey by flight or connecting cruise is part of the adventure. All sailings here depart in 2027, ranging from 12 to 129 nights, with a typical voyage running around 22 nights. Browse the full repositioning cruises collection if you want to compare across years, or explore all cruises in 2027 for a broader view.

Where do 2027 repositioning cruises go?

The destinations split naturally into two groups: voyages that stay closer to home across the Pacific and Southeast Asia, and long-haul crossings that push out to North America, Europe and beyond. The biggest share of sailings is concentrated in Australian waters and on transpacific routes, so those two areas get the most detail below.

Close to home — Australia, the Pacific and Southeast Asia

The largest group of sailings traces the waters Australia cruisers know best. Many depart from Sydney or Brisbane and spend time along the Australian coast before heading into the Pacific. Australian itineraries include Great Barrier Reef calls and Queensland ports, giving you a genuine sense of scale before the ship moves on. From there, several voyages push out through the South Pacific and into Fiji, spending days at anchor in some of the most vivid blue water in the southern hemisphere.

Southeast Asia is the other major draw in this group. Sailings heading to Singapore — the single most common disembarkation port — pass through South East Asian waters on routes that suit travellers who want to end the voyage in one of the region’s great cities rather than turning around. If you live away from the departure port, a short domestic flight connects you to whichever Australian city the ship leaves from; at the far end, we can arrange the onward flights, hotels and transfers so Singapore or wherever you land is part of the holiday rather than an afterthought. See also cruise from Singapore to Australia in 2027 if the direction works the other way for you, or compare Asia cruises in 2027 more broadly.

French Polynesia features on several itineraries — a region whose coral atolls and mountain islands are a highlight for anyone who has not yet sailed those waters from an Australian home port. The cruise around Australia in 2027 page is worth a look if you’d prefer a round-trip before committing to a one-way voyage.

The long haul — transpacific crossings and beyond

Transpacific sailings are the second-biggest group here, and they suit travellers who want to cross an ocean properly rather than fly over it. Ships depart Australian ports and cross to the US West Coast, arriving in Seattle, San Francisco or Vancouver. Honolulu sits as a mid-Pacific waypoint for many of these routes, giving you a few days in Hawaii before the final stretch to the American mainland. These are substantial voyages — plan for several weeks at sea — and the pacing is part of the appeal: sea days, sunsets, and a real sense of having crossed a body of water that most people only ever see from 30,000 feet.

A small number of sailings reach even further. Southampton appears as a destination for 2 sailings, making for an extraordinary one-way voyage from Australia to England. Cape Town also features, for travellers who want to finish in southern Africa. On any of these longer routes, we can arrange flights home from the disembarkation port, plus hotels either side and any transfers, as a single package. The Mediterranean cruises in 2027 page is a natural next step if you’re arriving in Southampton and thinking about extending the trip.

If you’re departing from Fremantle, the cruises from Fremantle in 2027 page has more options tailored to that port, including the route to Singapore that several ships take from Western Australia.

Which cruise lines have sailings in 2027?

Princess Cruises leads the selection with the most sailings. Celebrity Cruises, Holland America Line and Oceania Cruises each offer a solid spread of voyages. Carnival Cruise Line sails two popular ships from Australian ports, and our own DreamAway Packages combine cruise fares with flights, hotels and transfers to make the whole journey simpler. If you’re interested in exploring what other lines offer in 2027, the Princess Cruises Australia 2026–2027 season launch and the Princess 2027–2028 season launch both carry detailed line-up information for that fleet. Carnival fans can also check Carnival Luminosa sailings in 2027 and Carnival cruises from Adelaide 2026–2027.

Which ships are sailing these repositioning voyages?

Six ships cover the majority of sailings here. Each has a distinct character, so the right choice depends as much on what you want on board as on the itinerary.

Royal Princess — Princess Cruises

Royal Princess carries the most sailings. The ship’s glass-bottomed SeaWalk extends 40 metres above the ocean — step out over the water and look straight down to the sea below. When you need to retreat from the sun, The Sanctuary adults-only deck offers attentive stewards and wide ocean views. Evenings bring Movies Under the Stars on deck, duelling pianos at Crooners bar, and a dancing fountain light show. For cabin choices and deck layouts, see the Royal Princess cabins and deck plans.

Carnival Luminosa — Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival Luminosa sails from Brisbane on itineraries that call at the Great Barrier Reef, Airlie Beach, Fiji and Vanuatu — some of the strongest local routing available from a Queensland port. On board, the Punchliner Comedy Club draws a crowd every night, and themed deck parties — including the famous 80s Glow party — mean there’s rarely a quiet evening. Families and groups do well here: the food is varied, the activities are plentiful, and the atmosphere is deliberately relaxed and fun rather than formal. Browse Carnival Luminosa cabins and deck plans to compare stateroom options before you book.

Carnival Splendor — Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival Splendor sails from Sydney and is one of the most popular ships in the Australian market. The Punchliner Comedy Club is a fixture for evening laughs, and the ship has a well-earned reputation for keeping things lively well into the night. If you need a quieter corner, the adults-only Serenity Retreat does the job — while younger travellers head to the waterpark. Deck plans and stateroom grades are on the Carnival Splendor cabins and deck plans page, and ship details are on the Carnival Splendor page.

Celebrity Solstice — Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Solstice was revitalised in 2026, so by the time these 2027 repositioning voyages sail, the new restaurants, redesigned staterooms and refreshed outdoor spaces will be well settled in. The Lawn Club — a real grass lawn on the top deck — gives the ship one of its most distinctive features, alongside live concerts at Sunset Park and duelling piano sessions. For something genuinely different at dinner, Le Petit Chef uses 3D projection to bring an animated dining experience to the table. AquaClass cabins add exclusive spa and restaurant access for those who want the option. Full stateroom detail is on the Celebrity Solstice cabins and deck plans page.

Quantum of the Seas — Royal Caribbean

Quantum of the Seas sails from Brisbane and offers some of the most technologically adventurous on-board experiences in the fleet. The iFLY skydiving simulator lets you experience freefall without leaving the ship, while the North Star observation pod lifts guests above the upper decks for views across the water. Evenings in Two70° are something else entirely: the aft of the ship features a curved, floor-to-ceiling screen that transforms into an immersive show space each night. Check the Quantum of the Seas cabins and deck plans for stateroom grades, or visit the Quantum of the Seas ship page for the full picture.

Queen Victoria — Cunard

Queen Victoria is Cunard’s most intimate ship — large enough to deliver the full Cunard experience, compact enough that the ship never feels impersonal. White-gloved Afternoon Tea in the Queens Room is the ritual that defines the brand, and the Gala evenings give passengers a reason to dress. The Royal Court Theatre runs a nightly programme of vocalists, illusionists and aerial performers. If Cunard’s 2027 season is on your radar beyond this page, the Cunard 2027–2028 world cruise and season launch covers the full programme, and the Cunard winter and summer season 2025–2027 page fills in the longer picture. Cabin choices are on the Queen Victoria cabins and deck plans page.

Also sailing in this collection: Anthem of the Seas, Azamara Pursuit, Vista and Volendam. Deck plans for each are available — Anthem of the Seas cabins and deck plans, Azamara Pursuit cabins and deck plans, Vista cabins and deck plans and Volendam cabins and deck plans.

Cabin grades: what’s available on these ships?

Cabin choice matters more on a repositioning cruise than on a short sailing — you’ll spend real time in your stateroom. The grades below run from interior to suite for the three ships where we hold the full detail.

Royal Princess cabin grades

  • Inside cabin IA — 15.4 m²: The most affordable way onto the ship. Comes with minibar, safe and desk, and sleeps up to 4.
  • Sea-view cabin O6 — 20 m²: A large panoramic window gives you natural daylight and a forward-facing view of the open ocean that no inside cabin can match. Sleeps up to 4.
  • Deluxe Balcony cabin DA — 23.4 m²: A private balcony for breakfast at sea or sundowners as the ship sails — the detail that separates a balcony sailing from any other. Sleeps up to 4.
  • Penthouse Suite S3 with aft balcony — 54.5 m²: Approximately 54.5–63.4 m², this is the largest accommodation on board — significantly more living space than any mini suite or ocean-view cabin. Sleeps up to 4.

See the full range on the Royal Princess cabins and deck plans page.

Carnival Luminosa cabin grades

  • Inside cabin 4A — 14 m²: Positioned on lower to middle decks, these cabins experience less ship motion and are the most affordable entry point. Sleeps up to 4.
  • Inside cabin with window 4K — 17 m², obstructed view: Floor-to-ceiling windows with partial views — more affordable than an unobstructed sea-view cabin, but with natural light and a sense of the outside world. Sleeps up to 4.
  • Balcony cabin with extended balcony 8J — 31 m²: The extended balcony gives you around 10 m² more outdoor space than a standard balcony — useful on a longer sailing. Sleeps up to 2.
  • Vista Suite GV — 53 m²: At 53–68 m², this is the largest suite category on the ship, nearly three times the size of a standard inside cabin. Sleeps up to 2.

Compare grades in full on the Carnival Luminosa cabins and deck plans page.

Carnival Splendor cabin grades

  • Cloud 9 Spa Inside cabin 4S — 16 m²: Includes priority spa reservations, unlimited thermal suite access and two complimentary fitness classes — a genuine extra for anyone who uses the spa regularly. Sleeps up to 3.
  • Large Sea-view cabin 6K — 30 m²: At 30 m², this is 10 m² larger than the standard sea-view grades, giving noticeably more living space for a longer voyage. Sleeps up to 4.
  • Balcony cabin 8M with large balcony — 26 m²: Nine square metres more than the standard balcony grades, with a private outdoor area sized for genuine use rather than a quick stand. Sleeps up to 4.
  • Captain’s Suite CS — 47 m²: The largest suite on the ship at 47 m², with a separate bedroom and living area. Sleeps up to 5.

Full grade detail is on the Carnival Splendor cabins and deck plans page.

What do the fares include?

Fare inclusions vary by cruise line and by the tier you choose at booking. Here is what the main lines offer on these sailings.

Princess Cruises

Princess offers two main entry points. The Princess Standard fare covers the cruise itself — a clean base price from which you can add packages. The Princess Plus package builds on that with 4 casual dining meals per voyage, beverages up to A$15 each (up to 15 drinks per day), MedallionNet Max Wi-Fi, pre-paid crew appreciation, unlimited digital photographs with 3 prints, and reserved theatre seating. If you drink, eat out on board regularly and want Wi-Fi, the Plus tier tends to pay for itself on a longer sailing. For Princess’s full 2027 programme, see the Princess Cruises Australia 2026–2027 season.

Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity operates 3 fare tiers on these sailings. The cruise-only rate gives you the lowest entry price to personalise later. The best-value tier bundles a classic drinks package and basic Wi-Fi into one price. The Retreat is Celebrity’s suite-level offering: premium drinks, premium Wi-Fi, suite accommodation, exclusive lounge and sundeck access, private dining and personal service all included.

Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean’s fare options on these sailings include a standard Cruise Fare, a Single/Solo Fare for solo travellers taking a stateroom alone, and fare types such as last-minute offers that provide discounted pricing on select departures. Our cruise experts can walk you through which fare type suits your booking timeline and travel party.

Are there any discounts on 2027 repositioning sailings?

A good number of sailings carry a reduced price from what was previously listed for that cabin grade. The maximum reduction across the selection is 23% on one departure, though most discounted sailings are reduced by around 10%. It’s worth checking individual sailings with our team, as reductions apply to specific cabin grades on specific departures rather than across the board. Our Best Price Guarantee means that if you find a lower price for the same sailing and cabin after booking with CruiseAway, we’ll match it.

Which ports do these sailings depart from?

All departures leave from Australian ports. Sydney is by far the most active embarkation point, with departures throughout 2027. Brisbane is the next most common, with sailings for ships including Carnival Luminosa and Quantum of the Seas. Perth (Fremantle) and Melbourne also feature as departure points — see the cruises from Fremantle in 2027 page for Fremantle-specific options and the Melbourne cruises page for more on departures from that city.

Because all these voyages are one-way, the end point is a city away from home — Singapore, Honolulu, Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, Cape Town or Southampton. The ship doesn’t come back. If you’re flying in to meet a departure port that’s not your home city, it’s a domestic flight rather than an international one, which keeps the logistics manageable. We can add that domestic leg, your hotel the night before, and the return international flight from wherever the voyage ends — all on one booking through our DreamAway Packages.

Thinking about other 2027 departures in the region? Cruises from Brisbane in January 2027 and cruises from Sydney to New Zealand in 2027 are both worth a look if you want to compare round-trip options alongside this one-way selection. Departures from Singapore in 2027 are an option too, if you’d rather join the ship at the far end for a different routing.

Are there all-inclusive options?

A portion of the sailings here include drinks, Wi-Fi or both as part of the fare — the Celebrity Cruises best-value and Retreat tiers are the clearest examples, while Princess Plus delivers comparable inclusions on Princess sailings. Holland America Line and Oceania Cruises also offer inclusive fare structures on their voyages. Our cruise experts will show you the side-by-side comparison so you can judge whether paying for inclusions upfront works out better than adding them individually — it often does on a longer repositioning sailing where daily costs accumulate.

Make it a complete holiday

A repositioning cruise is already a significant journey, but there’s usually more on either side of it worth planning. CruiseAway can put together the full trip: domestic or international flights to the embarkation port, a hotel the night before you board, transfers between the airport and the ship, tours at ports along the way, and the return flight home from whichever city the ship arrives in. Everything goes on one booking through our DreamAway Packages service, so you’re not juggling separate reservations from separate providers. Our cruise experts have sailed these ships and know these routes — call us if you want a recommendation rather than a list, and we’ll help you find the sailing that suits how you travel.

If you’d like to compare the 2026 season first, repositioning cruises in 2026 is still available for reference. Or browse cruises from Auckland in 2027 if a New Zealand departure suits you better for a transpacific crossing.

Prices from A$1,779 pp*

The lowest fare on these 2027 repositioning sailings starts at A$1,779 pp*. Prices are per person based on 2 people sharing a cabin and will vary depending on ship, cabin grade, fare tier and departure date. Our Best Price Guarantee applies to every booking.

Where a discount is shown, it is a reduction from the price previously listed for that cabin grade on that sailing, not a comparison between cabin grades or against a brochure rate. Discounts and prices shown are not kept up to date: the reduction available now may be smaller, or may have ended, and prices may have changed. Prices and any discounts shown were checked on 14 October 2026.
