Celebrity Cruises to New Zealand and Australia in 2028–2029

Celebrity Edge sails to New Zealand, Australia and the South Pacific across the 2028–2029 season, with sailings departing from Sydney and Auckland. Voyages run from 4 to 14 nights, with a median of 10 nights, and the season stretches from October 2028 through to May 2029 — giving you genuine flexibility across the southern-hemisphere summer and into autumn.

Where do these sailings go?

New Zealand dominates the season and rightly earns the most attention. These sailings take you through some of the most scenic cruising in the southern hemisphere, with Sydney-to-New Zealand voyages forming the backbone of the programme. If you’ve been thinking about a trans-Tasman cruise, the 2028–2029 Celebrity Edge season is a strong moment to do it.

Australia itself features as both a departure region and a destination. Several sailings explore Australian waters, making Sydney one of the hardest-working ports in the programme — 9 of the 11 sailings either start or finish there. For anyone within reach of Sydney, these departures mean no international flight at all: you board in your own city and you’re at sea the same afternoon. If you’re travelling from another state, a short domestic hop is all it takes to reach the ship.

The South Pacific rounds out the season with a single departure for travellers who want something a little further afield. The South Pacific sailing adds range to a programme that is otherwise focused tightly on the Tasman region.

Are these round trips or one-way voyages?

Most sailings — 7 of the 11 — are round trips, so you return to the same port you left from, which makes planning straightforward. The remaining 4 are one-way voyages. On a one-way itinerary, the ship finishes in a different city from where it started; a domestic flight connects the two ends, and CruiseAway can book that for you alongside your cruise. We can also arrange any hotel nights either side and transfers between the port and the airport, so nothing is left for you to piece together separately.

If you’re travelling from Auckland, 2 sailings depart from there — and other 2028 sailings from Auckland are worth comparing if your dates don’t quite line up with the Celebrity Edge programme.

Which ship sails this season?

Celebrity Edge

Celebrity Edge is the ship that carries all 11 sailings and it is genuinely distinctive — there is nothing else quite like it in Australian waters. The ship’s signature feature is the Magic Carpet: a cantilevered platform that moves between decks and transforms into a bar, a restaurant and an al fresco dining venue suspended 16 storeys above the ocean. Cocktails and seafood with nothing between you and the sea is a hard experience to match.

Inside the cabins, Celebrity Edge introduced the Infinite Veranda — a floor-to-ceiling sliding glass wall that opens your stateroom directly to the outside air. Opening it wide to a Sydney sunrise on a morning at sea is one of those details that moves Celebrity Edge from comfortable to memorable.

The ship also has Eden, a three-level living garden that runs through the stern of the ship. Live performers appear among the plants and the light; it is the kind of space that is difficult to describe and easy to spend an evening in.

Cabin grades on Celebrity Edge

The Celebrity Edge cabins and deck plans page has the full layout, but here is a summary of the key grades, running from interior through to suite:

  • Deluxe Inside (DI) — 18.8 m², sleeps 4. Around 2 m² more spacious than the standard inside option, with a larger bathroom and better storage. A practical choice if you plan to spend most of your time on deck.
  • Deluxe Ocean-view (DO) — 22.1 m², sleeps 4. The most spacious cabin in the ocean-view category — roughly 3 to 4 m² more living space than the standard version — so the step up from inside to a sea view is also a step up in comfort.
  • Sunset Veranda Stateroom (SV) — 21.2 m², sleeps 4. The balcony here is the largest of all the standard veranda grades at approximately 8.3 m², compared with around 3.7 m² in other veranda categories. If the balcony is the reason you book a veranda cabin, this is the grade to look at.
  • Iconic Suite (IC) — 239.8 m², sleeps 6. The largest suite in the entire Celebrity fleet. Panoramic views spanning 270° from the highest position above the bridge, plus a private hot tub. If you want space and altitude, nothing else on the ship comes close.

Celebrity Solstice

While Celebrity Solstice carries sailings in this region, those are separate departures from the Celebrity Edge programme. Celebrity Solstice was freshly revitalised in 2026 with new restaurants, redesigned staterooms and updated outdoor spaces, and it sails from Sydney. If you’d like to compare what Solstice offers, the Celebrity Solstice cabins and deck plans page is the place to start — and our cruise experts can talk you through the differences in person.

Celebrity Solstice’s Lawn Club gives you a genuine grass deck in the open air; Sunset Park hosts live concerts; and the Dueling Pianos venue runs late into the evening. For something more intimate, Le Petit Chef’s 3D animated dining show is one of those experiences that people come back from and still talk about. AquaClass cabins give you exclusive access to a dedicated spa restaurant and spa facilities.

Cabin grades on Celebrity Solstice

  • Inside (I1) — 17.0 m², sleeps 4. Positioned on higher decks, so the routes to the pools and bars are shorter and the views from the public areas above are better.
  • Panoramic Ocean-view (PN) — 22.7 m², sleeps 4. Floor-to-ceiling glass gives a significantly wider field of view than a standard ocean-view porthole — a real difference on a New Zealand sailing where the scenery matters.
  • Deluxe Veranda (DV) — 19.1 m², sleeps 5. Around 1 m² larger than a standard balcony cabin, and one of the few grades on the ship that sleeps 5, making it a practical option for families or a trio of friends.
  • Penthouse Suite (PS) — 156.1 m², sleeps 4. The largest suite on board, more than four times the size of a standard balcony cabin, with a private hot tub. See the Solstice deck plans for exact positioning.

What fare options does Celebrity Cruises offer?

Celebrity Cruises offers 3 fare tiers on these sailings, and choosing the right one upfront saves you money compared with adding things later:

  • Cruise Only (best-rate). The lowest available fare with no inclusions built in. You add what you want — drinks, Wi-Fi, speciality dining — as you go. The right choice if you drink sparingly or already have travel perks through a loyalty programme.
  • Classic (best-value). A classic drinks package and basic Wi-Fi are included in one price. For most passengers who enjoy a drink at dinner and want to stay connected, this tier covers the essentials without the premium.
  • The Retreat. Reserved for suite guests. Premium drinks, premium Wi-Fi, exclusive lounge and sundeck access, private dining and dedicated personal service are all included. If you are booking the Iconic Suite or another suite grade, this is the fare tier that matches it.

Our cruise experts can run through which tier makes financial sense for how you actually cruise — it is one of the most useful things a specialist can do before you commit to a cabin.

Are there any discounts available?

Reductions are available across the sailings on this season. Most reduced departures are discounted around 6% from the price previously listed for that cabin grade, with up to 11% off on one departure. If you spot a sailing at a price that works, our Best Price Guarantee means you can book with confidence — if you find the same sailing cheaper elsewhere, we’ll match it.

How do I get to the ship?

Most sailings depart from Sydney, which is straightforward if you live nearby — you drive or take the train to the terminal and board the same day, with no airport involved at either end. If you’re travelling from interstate, a short domestic flight into Sydney is all it takes; CruiseAway can book that flight alongside your cruise, and add a hotel the night before and a transfer to the terminal, so the whole journey is on one booking.

For one-way sailings that finish in Auckland — or that start there — a domestic or trans-Tasman flight connects the two ends of the voyage. We book that leg too, along with any hotel nights in Auckland and transfers between the city and the port. Other 2028 sailings from Auckland are worth a look if you want to extend your time in New Zealand.

For Sydney departures, the broader 2028 Sydney cruise programme gives you context on what else is sailing from the same port that season — useful if you’re weighing up dates or itineraries.

Why book with CruiseAway?

CruiseAway is a cruise specialist — every booking we make is a cruise or a cruise-inclusive package, which means our team knows Celebrity Edge and its fare tiers in a way a general travel agent simply doesn’t. We help you choose the cabin grade and the fare inclusions that suit how you travel, and we put the whole holiday — cruise, flights, hotels, transfers, tours and insurance — on a single booking through our DreamAway Packages.

Our Best Price Guarantee means you can book without second-guessing yourself. And because we hold ATAS accreditation, your booking is protected.

For a broader view of what Celebrity Cruises offers across its full fleet and programme, the Celebrity Cruises Australia page is the place to start.

Also considering other years or routes?

If the 2028–2029 season doesn’t quite match your dates, or if you want to compare what’s available across a wider range of sailings, there are several pages worth browsing:

If you’re planning around a particular month, cruises in April 2028 from Australia and Sydney departures in January 2028 are both worth checking. For festive sailing options, Christmas cruises from Sydney and New Year’s Eve cruises are on the menu too. And if New Zealand is the main draw, the Brisbane-to-New Zealand and Melbourne-to-New Zealand pages are useful if Sydney isn’t your nearest departure city.

For the broader 2028 programme across all cruise lines, all 2028 cruises gives you the full picture. If you’re weighing up a longer voyage, the Fremantle to Singapore 2028 page covers a popular repositioning route from Australian waters.

Where a discount is shown, it is a reduction from the price previously listed for that cabin grade on that sailing, not a comparison between cabin grades or against a brochure rate. Discounts and prices shown are not kept up to date: the reduction available now may be smaller, or may have ended, and prices may have changed.
