Viking Saigon is a purpose-built Mekong river ship launched in 2022 and operated by Viking River Cruises. She carries 80 guests attended by 58 crew across 40 cabins, giving a crew-to-guest ratio that keeps service personal and unhurried. Sailings depart from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Kampong Cham, Cambodia, tracing the Mekong through one of the world's most storied river corridors.
The main dining room, The Restaurant, is included in your cruise fare and serves regional specialities alongside timeless classics, with floor-to-ceiling windows that keep the riverbanks in view throughout every meal. For something more casual, the Pool Grill offers freshly prepared dishes and a salad bar in a relaxed poolside setting, also included in your fare.
World Café brings open kitchens and live cooking to the table, with international dishes, premium sushi and seafood, and the option to step outside onto the Aquavit Terrace® — the open-air dining deck that frames the passing landscape as your backdrop. Mamsen's®, located in the Explorers' Lounge, serves Norwegian specialities from breakfast through to dinner at no extra cost.
For complimentary afternoon tea, the Wintergarden beside the main pool offers finger sandwiches, fresh scones, pastries and international teas accompanied by live classical music. Those who want something more special can book into The Chef's Table, a multi-course tasting menu with wine pairings (reservations required, à la carte pricing applies), or Manfredi's Italian Restaurant®, where authentic Italian cuisine is served in a trattoria atmosphere with a cover charge. The Kitchen Table rounds out the options with a hands-on culinary experience built around local flavours and regional cooking techniques — confirm inclusion at the time of booking.
The Living Room sits at the heart of the ship, offering generous seating and live classical music from the Viking Resident Musicians — a natural gathering point for guests at any time of day. Entry is complimentary; beverages and food are charged separately unless included in your package.
Torshavn® brings the atmosphere of a Hollywood-era jazz lounge to the evenings, with live music and cocktails. The Explorers' Lounge wraps two storeys of panoramic windows around a relaxed lounge space, ideal for watching the Mekong's riverbanks slide past. The Atrium and its Clinker Bar — designed to evoke Viking longships — add a Nordic edge to the social spaces.
For quieter entertainment, The Theater screens films, lectures and TED Talks and can be divided into two HD cinemas; admission is included in your fare. The Sports Deck runs a track alongside bocce, mini golf and shuffleboard, with use included in your cruise fare (guided classes such as yoga are charged separately).
The Nordic Spa is open to all guests as a complimentary wellness space, with a sauna and snow grotto; individual treatments are charged separately. The Fitness Center is fully equipped with treadmills, elliptical machines and exercise bikes, and free to use at any time. The Hair Salon offers washing, cutting, styling and the Royal Nordic Hair Ritual, all charged separately.
Two pools add to the picture: the heated Main Pool with Retractable Roof ensures year-round swimming regardless of the weather, with a large poolside screen for evening films; and the Infinity Pool — designed with floor-to-ceiling windows to create the sensation of swimming at the very edge of the river — includes a hot tub and teak surround. Both are included in your cruise fare.
All 40 cabins are designed for two guests across three grades. Full details, measurements and deck layouts are on the Viking Saigon cabins and deck plans page.
Current sailings through Viking River Cruises run in South East Asia, departing from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Kampong Cham, Cambodia from September 2026, with itineraries of up to seven nights. Prices start from A$8,895pp* for a two-person booking.
Because all departures require international travel, CruiseAway can arrange the complete journey as a DreamAway Package — combining flights from Australia, hotel nights before or after the cruise, airport and port transfers, and the cruise itself into a single booking. Our cruise experts can also help you weigh up cabin grades and fare inclusions so you only pay for what you actually want.
CruiseAway backs every booking with our Best Price Guarantee, and our cruise experts know these ships and fares in detail — they can walk you through the difference between cabin grades, explain what is and is not included, and put together a price that covers every part of the journey. Flying to Cambodia or Vietnam and back is not a small undertaking; having it on one booking, with one team answerable for it, takes a significant amount of stress out of the trip.
Your fare covers dining at The Restaurant, World Café, Pool Grill, Aquavit Terrace, Mamsen's and the Wintergarden afternoon tea, as well as access to the Main Pool, Infinity Pool, Fitness Center, Nordic Spa (spa treatments are extra), Sports Deck and all entertainment in The Theater and The Living Room. Beverages, speciality restaurant cover charges and selected classes are charged separately unless your package includes them.
Yes — every current sailing departs from either Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam or Kampong Cham in Cambodia, so all guests travelling from Australia will need to fly. CruiseAway can build this into a DreamAway Package that combines your flights, hotel stays and transfers with the cruise on a single booking.
Viking Saigon carries 80 guests, served by a crew of 58 across 40 cabins. That ratio keeps the atmosphere genuinely intimate and the service attentive throughout.
The French Balcony Stateroom B sits on a lower deck for a particularly stable ride — a good choice if you are sensitive to motion. The Veranda Stateroom A at the same size prioritises river views with its French balcony design. The Explorer Suite ES at 68.3 m² adds a separate living room and larger veranda if space and privacy matter most. Our cruise experts can talk through which suits your budget and travel style.
Viking River Cruises operates several other ships you may be weighing up. Viking Astrild and Viking Forseti are other river ships in the fleet. For ocean itineraries, Viking Sea, Viking Star, Viking Sky and Viking Ullur are all available to browse and compare.
