About Viking Tonle

CruiseAway is proud to offer sailings on Viking Tonle, one of the newest ships in the Viking River Cruises fleet, launched in 2025. With only 80 guests aboard and a crew of 58, the onboard atmosphere is intimate and unhurried — more like a private club than a cruise ship. Our cruise experts are on hand to match you with the right cabin and fare, and our Best Price Guarantee means you can book with confidence. Every sailing departs from Cambodia or Vietnam, so we'll bundle your flights, hotels and transfers into a single DreamAway Package.

Viking Tonle at a glance

Viking Tonle is a river cruise ship built in 2025 and operated by Viking River Cruises. She carries 80 passengers, supported by 58 crew across 40 cabins, giving one of the highest crew-to-guest ratios on the Mekong. Her itineraries focus on South East Asia — specifically the river routes connecting Cambodia and Vietnam — and she sails from both Kampong Cham and Ho Chi Minh City. Current sailings run to seven nights.

  • Home waters: Mekong River, South East Asia
  • Operated by: Viking River Cruises
  • Departures from: Kampong Cham, Cambodia and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Cabins on Viking Tonle

All 40 cabins sleep two guests, and every grade gives you a connection to the river outside. Full deck plans and a cabin-by-cabin breakdown are on the Viking Tonle cabins and deck plans page — worth checking before you book if cabin position matters to you.

The French Balcony Stateroom B sits on the lower decks, placing you at water level where the riverbank fills the window; at 28.3 m² it is a well-proportioned room for two. The Veranda Stateroom A matches that 28.3 m² footprint but adds a French balcony design that draws in fresh air and river views without sacrificing deck space. At the top of the range, the Explorer Suite ES more than doubles the stateroom footprint at 68.3 m², adding a separate sitting room with its own flat-screen TV and a generous veranda — the obvious choice if you want room to spread out after a long day ashore.

Dining on Viking Tonle

The main dining room, The Restaurant, is included in your fare and frames every meal with floor-to-ceiling views of the river passing outside. For something more casual, the World Café on Deck 7 Aft runs open kitchens with live cooking, international dishes and premium sushi, and its doors open directly onto the Aquavit Terrace® for outdoor dining above the water.

At the Pool Grill on Deck 7, freshly prepared dishes and a salad bar keep lunch relaxed between swims. The Wintergarden on Deck 7 Midship serves complimentary afternoon tea — finger sandwiches, scones, pastries and international teas — beside the main pool. Mamsen's®, located in the Explorers' Lounge on Deck 7, brings Norwegian specialities from breakfast through to dinner at no extra charge.

For evenings when you want something more considered, Manfredi's Italian Restaurant® recreates a trattoria atmosphere and is available on an à la carte basis. The Chef's Table offers a multi-course tasting menu with sommelier-paired wines by reservation (a charge applies), while The Kitchen Table brings a hands-on culinary experience built around local ingredients and cooking techniques.

Bars, lounges and entertainment

The heart of the ship is The Living Room, where generous seating, a calm social atmosphere and live classical music from the Viking Resident Musicians create a natural gathering point. Beverages are charged separately here, as they are in most bar venues. Adjacent is the Bar — the Clinker Bar — designed to evoke Nordic longships, set within the Living Room atrium.

Torshavn® takes its cue from Hollywood's golden age of jazz lounges and offers live music most evenings. The Explorers' Lounge wraps two storeys of panoramic windows around you as the Mekong drifts past; it also houses Mamsen's for those who want a snack with their sundowner. The open Atrium doubles as a cocktail bar and social hub.

The Theater can seat up to 450 guests and shows lectures, films and TED Talks; when the programme calls for it, the room divides into two HD cinemas. All admission is included in your fare.

Pools, spa and wellness

Viking Tonle carries two pools. The Main Pool with Retractable Roof is heated and covered in inclement weather, and doubles as an outdoor cinema in the evenings. The Infinity Pool, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a hot tub, creates the feeling of swimming at the edge of the river itself; the adjacent Aquavit Terrace® is open for dining in the evenings (food and beverages charged separately at that hour).

Access to The Nordic Spa is complimentary — the sauna and snow grotto are yours to use — though individual treatments carry a charge. The Fitness Center is likewise open to all guests at no cost, with treadmills, elliptical machines, bikes and free-weight space; some fitness classes are charged. The Sports Deck adds a running track, boccie, mini golf and shuffleboard in the open air, all included in your fare.

Where Viking Tonle sails

All current sailings explore South East Asia from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam or from Kampong Cham, Cambodia — two of the most evocative departure points on the Mekong. The river connects ancient Khmer temple complexes with the waterways and markets of the Mekong Delta, giving each itinerary a strong sense of place that changes with every bend. Sailings depart from late September 2026.

Because every sailing requires an international flight to reach the embarkation port, the cruise is naturally the centrepiece of a longer trip. That is exactly what our DreamAway Packages are built for: we arrange your flights, your hotel nights in Siem Reap, Ho Chi Minh City or wherever else you want to stop, and all transfers — on one booking, with one point of contact.

Booking Viking Tonle with CruiseAway

CruiseAway's cruise experts know these ships and fares in detail — call us with a question about cabin position or fare inclusions and you'll get a straight answer rather than a brochure read-back. Our Best Price Guarantee is a named, site-wide promise: if you find the same sailing cheaper, we'll match it. And because every Viking Tonle departure involves Cambodia or Vietnam, our DreamAway Packages take care of everything between your front door and the gangway.

If you are weighing up options across the Viking fleet, other ships you may be choosing between include Viking Astrild, Viking Forseti and Viking Ullur — all river vessels with Viking River Cruises — as well as the ocean ships Viking Sea, Viking Star and Viking Sky.

Common questions about Viking Tonle

Is Viking Tonle a river ship or an ocean ship?

Viking Tonle is a river cruise ship, purpose-built for the Mekong River and launched in 2025. She carries 80 guests and sails between Cambodia and Vietnam on itineraries of up to seven nights — quite different in scale and character from Viking's ocean fleet.

Do I need to book flights separately?

Every sailing currently on sale departs from either Kampong Cham in Cambodia or Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, so an international flight is needed for all Australian guests. CruiseAway can package your flights, hotels and transfers alongside the cruise as a single DreamAway Package, so there is no need to co-ordinate multiple bookings yourself.

Which cabin grade should I choose on Viking Tonle?

With only three grades available, the choice is straightforward. If water-level immersion appeals, the French Balcony Stateroom B on the lower decks puts you closest to the river. The Veranda Stateroom A on a higher deck adds a French balcony opening. If you want meaningful extra space — a sitting room and a proper veranda — the Explorer Suite ES at 68.3 m² is the one to consider. Our Viking Tonle cabins and deck plans page shows exact positions.

What is included in the Viking Tonle fare?

The main dining venues — The Restaurant, World Café, Pool Grill, Wintergarden and Mamsen's — are included in your fare, as are all pools, the Nordic Spa's general access, the Fitness Center, the Sports Deck and admission to The Theater. Speciality restaurants such as Manfredi's Italian Restaurant® and The Chef's Table carry à la carte charges or reservation fees, and beverages in the bars are charged separately unless you have added a beverage package. Confirm inclusions at the time of booking, as fare types vary.

How do I find the current deals on Viking Tonle sailings?

Prices from A$8,895pp* are available on sailings departing from late September 2026. CruiseAway lists both departures — from Kampong Cham and from Ho Chi Minh City — and our cruise experts can tell you which fare type and cabin grade give you the best value for your dates.
