The itineraries on sale here run from 46 to 63 nights — roughly six to nine weeks at sea — and all 4 sailings currently depart from Sydney. Every voyage is one-way: your ship sets off from Sydney and finishes in a different city, so the return leg is a domestic or international flight rather than a turnaround at the same dock. If you are based in Sydney, that is simply a flight home from wherever you disembark; if you live elsewhere in Australia, you have a short domestic hop to Sydney at the start and a connection home at the end. Cunard — Queen Elizabeth

Queen Elizabeth brings Cunard’s signature Art Deco grandeur to the world cruise circuit. From the chandelier-lit atrium to the teak promenade deck, every detail is designed to evoke the golden age of ocean travel. Dining is tiered through the Britannia, Princess Grill and Queens Grill restaurants, each with Cunard’s celebrated White Star Service. Evenings can be spent at a Royal Court Theatre production, dancing in the Queens Room ballroom, or playing deck croquet in the afternoon sun. Holland America Line — Volendam

Volendam is Holland America Line’s entry on this route, carrying the relaxed, refined style the line is known for. Fresh flower arrangements throughout the ship set the tone, and the Frans Hals Show Lounge hosts a varied entertainment programme. For a special dinner, the upscale French cuisine at Le Cirque is a highlight worth booking early. Cabin grades include:

World cruise routes and key sectors

A full world cruise is a significant commitment of time and money, and not every traveller wants to be at sea for 7 or 8 weeks in one go. If you would like to experience the world cruise style without the full length, sailing a sector — a single leg of a longer itinerary — is a practical alternative. World cruise sectors let you join or leave the ship at an intermediate port, giving you a meaningful voyage of two to four weeks rather than the full circumnavigation.
