About Viking Rota

CruiseAway is your starting point for Viking Rota sailings, with our Best Price Guarantee and cruise experts who know this ship and these routes in detail. Viking Rota joined the Viking River Cruises fleet in 2026, purpose-built for Europe's inland waterways — the Danube, the Rhine and beyond. All seven departures we sell depart from European ports, which means flying to join the ship, and our DreamAway Packages can bundle your flights, hotel nights and transfers into a single booking so the whole trip is taken care of.

Viking Rota at a glance

Viking Rota is a river cruise ship built in 2026 for Viking River Cruises, purpose-designed for Europe's classic inland waterways. A few things to size her up by:

  • Capacity of 190 guests, looked after by 53 crew
  • 95 cabins across three grades, from Standard Staterooms to a wraparound Explorer Suite
  • 135 metres in length — built to transit Europe's river locks
  • Launched in 2026, among the newest vessels in the Viking fleet

She sails the Western Europe region as well as the Danube and Rhine rivers, departing from Amsterdam, Budapest, Passau and Basel. Itineraries run to up to 16 nights. You can browse everything we currently sell on her through our Europe cruises search or head straight to cruise deals in Europe to filter by price.

Dining on Viking Rota

Viking Rota carries eight distinct dining venues, ranging from an all-inclusive main restaurant to speciality options that carry a separate charge.

The Restaurant is the main dining room, set on Deck 2 Aft with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the river. Regional specialities and timeless classics are both on the menu, and it is included in your cruise fare. For casual meals by the water, the Pool Grill on Deck 7 serves freshly prepared dishes and a salad bar at no extra cost. The World Café, also on Deck 7 Aft, offers open kitchens with live cooking, international dishes and premium sushi and seafood — you can eat inside or move out to the Aquavit Terrace®, the ship's signature outdoor dining space directly above the waterline. The Wintergarden on Deck 7 Midship serves complimentary afternoon tea with finger sandwiches, scones and pastries alongside classical music. Mamsen's®, located in the Explorers' Lounge on Deck 7, brings Norwegian home-cooking to breakfast, lunch and dinner at no additional charge.

For a special occasion, The Chef's Table offers a multi-course tasting menu paired by sommeliers — reservations are required and a separate charge applies. Manfredi's Italian Restaurant® recreates an Italian trattoria with à la carte pricing and the option of a private dining room. The Kitchen Table on Deck 1 Aft is an interactive culinary experience built around regional ingredients; check with us or your booking confirmation whether it is included or carries a reservation fee on your chosen sailing.

Bars, lounges and entertainment

Viking Rota's social spaces are designed to draw guests together without feeling crowded — entry to all lounges is included, with beverages charged separately unless your package covers them.

The Living Room sits at the heart of the ship with generous seating, live classical music from the Viking Resident Musicians and curated activities. The Clinker Bar within the Living Room atrium takes its design cues from ancient Norse longships and serves as the focal point for evening drinks. Torshavn® evokes Hollywood's golden age of jazz lounges and features live music most evenings. The Explorers' Lounge offers two-storey panoramic windows framing the passing riverbanks — an ideal perch as the ship moves through new landscapes. The Atrium is the ship's central gathering point, open and light, and well suited to a pre-dinner cocktail.

The Theater seats up to 450 and hosts lectures, films and TED Talks on a large screen; it can also be divided into two HD cinemas depending on the programme. Admission is included in your cruise fare.

Wellness and outdoor spaces

The Nordic Spa is open to all guests at no charge — the sauna and snow grotto are complimentary, while individual treatments and classes carry a separate fee. The Fitness Center is equipped with treadmills, elliptical machines and exercise bikes, with open space for yoga and pilates; equipment use is complimentary. The Hair Salon offers cuts, styling and the Royal Nordic Hair Ritual, charged separately.

On deck, the Main Pool is heated and covered by a retractable roof, making it usable year-round whatever the weather — in the evening the poolside screen shows films under the open sky. The Infinity Pool features floor-to-ceiling windows that make it feel as though you are swimming at the very edge of the river, alongside a hot tub and a teak surround. The Sports Deck rounds out the outdoor options with a running track, boccie, mini golf and shuffleboard; general use is included, though guided classes carry a charge.

Cabins on Viking Rota

Viking Rota carries 95 cabins across three grades, all sleeping two. Detailed deck plans are on the Viking Rota cabins and deck plans page.

  • Standard Stateroom E — 13.9 m², outside cabin with a half-height river-view picture window that brings in natural light and passing scenery.
  • Veranda Stateroom A — 19.0 m², classified as a suite, with a full-size private veranda giving genuine outdoor river space.
  • Explorer Suite ES — 41.3 m², balcony grade, with a wraparound balcony offering 270-degree views — the most expansive outdoor river perspective available on the ship.

Our cruise experts can walk you through the trade-offs between grades and help you match a cabin to how you plan to spend your time on the river.

Why book Viking Rota with CruiseAway

CruiseAway's Best Price Guarantee means you book with confidence that you are getting the best available fare. Our cruise experts specialise in Viking River Cruises sailings and know these itineraries, cabin grades and fare inclusions in detail — they can help you choose the right combination rather than leaving you to figure it out alone.

Because every Viking Rota sailing we sell boards in Europe — in the Netherlands, Hungary, Germany or Switzerland — you will need to fly to join the ship. Our DreamAway Packages treat the cruise as the centrepiece of a longer trip, with flights, hotel nights either side and transfers all on one booking. Whatever cabin grade and fare structure suits your circumstances, we put the whole holiday together for you.

You can explore the full Viking River Cruises fleet on its own page, or search across all Europe cruise sailings if you are still weighing up routes and ships.

Other ships in the Viking fleet

If you are choosing between vessels, other Viking ships we sell include Viking Sea, Viking Star, Viking Sky, Viking Astrild, Viking Forseti and Viking Ullur — each has its own page with cabins, venues and current sailings.

Common questions about Viking Rota

When does Viking Rota sail, and from which ports?

Departures we currently sell begin after September 2026, with itineraries of up to 16 nights. Sailings board in Amsterdam (Netherlands), Budapest (Hungary), Passau (Germany) and Basel (Switzerland), covering the Danube, Rhine and Western Europe routes.

Which cabin grade offers the best outdoor river access?

The Explorer Suite ES has a wraparound balcony with 270-degree views — the most outdoor river space of any cabin on the ship. The Veranda Stateroom A carries a full-size private veranda, which is a meaningful step up from the half-height picture window in the Standard Stateroom E. Our cruise experts can help you weigh up the grades against your budget.

What is included in the cruise fare, and what costs extra?

The main dining venues — The Restaurant, World Café, Pool Grill, Aquavit Terrace, Mamsen's and the Wintergarden afternoon tea — are included in your fare, as is access to the Theater, the Nordic Spa, the Fitness Center, the pools and all lounges. Beverages at the bars are generally charged separately unless your package covers them. Speciality dining at The Chef's Table and Manfredi's Italian Restaurant carries an additional cost, as do spa treatments, some fitness classes and hair salon services.

Do I need to organise flights separately?

All Viking Rota sailings we sell depart from European ports, so Australian travellers will need to fly to join the ship. CruiseAway's DreamAway Packages can arrange your flights, pre- or post-cruise hotel stays and transfers as a single booking, so nothing falls through the gap between the flight and the ship.

What is the earliest price I can expect for a Viking Rota sailing?

Current sailings start from A$4,095pp* — our cruise experts can match you with the right itinerary and cabin grade for that budget and confirm exactly what is included in your fare.
