Viking Halogi at a glance

Viking Halogi entered service in 2026, purpose-built for the Rhine and carrying up to 190 guests in 95 cabins, attended by a crew of 53 — a ratio that keeps the experience attentive and unhurried. At 135 metres she is sized for the river locks and intimate ports that define a Rhine itinerary. Sailings currently on sale with CruiseAway depart from Amsterdam in the Netherlands and Basel in Switzerland, running up to nine nights along one of Europe's most scenic river corridors.

Cabins and suites on Viking Halogi

Three cabin grades cover the range from comfortable river-view rooms to a sweeping wraparound suite — full deck plans and berth-by-berth layouts are on the Viking Halogi cabins and deck plans page.

  • Standard Stateroom E (13.9 m²): A river-view stateroom with a half-height picture window that brings in natural light and passing scenery without a private outdoor space. A practical, well-proportioned base for guests who spend their days ashore.
  • Veranda Stateroom A (19.0 m²): The defining step up from a standard room — a full-size private veranda gives you direct outdoor access to the river air and views whenever you want them, without sharing the pool deck.
  • Explorer Suite ES (41.3 m²): The most expansive accommodation aboard, with a wraparound veranda delivering 270-degree panoramic river views. At 41.3 m², it is a genuinely spacious suite and the private outdoor space alone is unlike anything else on the ship.

All grades sleep two. Prices from A$5,095pp* are available on current sailings — our cruise experts can walk you through which grade gives you the best value for the itinerary you have in mind.

Dining on Viking Halogi

Viking Halogi carries a full range of dining venues, from an inclusive main restaurant to speciality rooms that carry a separate charge.

The Restaurant is the main dining room, included in your cruise fare, with floor-to-ceiling windows framing the river as you eat. World Café on Deck 7 Aft takes an open-kitchen approach, with live cooking stations, international dishes, and the option of stepping onto Aquavit Terrace® — an outdoor dining space positioned directly above the water so the destination is always in view.

For a lighter moment, Wintergarden on Deck 7 Midship serves complimentary afternoon tea with finger sandwiches, scones and pastries alongside live classical music. Mamsen's®, located in the Explorers' Lounge on Deck 7, offers Norwegian specialities from breakfast through to dinner at no extra cost — a nod to the Hagen family heritage that runs through everything Viking does.

For those who want a special-occasion meal, Manfredi's Italian Restaurant® on Aft Deck 1 delivers authentic Italian trattoria cooking with an à la carte menu and a private dining room option, while The Chef's Table offers a multi-course tasting menu with sommelier-paired wines by reservation. The Kitchen Table on Deck 1 Aft is a hands-on culinary experience built around regional ingredients and local food culture. All three carry a separate charge.

The Pool Grill on Deck 7 keeps casual poolside dining easy, and the Pool Bar nearby serves cocktails, beer and speciality coffee throughout the day — beverages there are charged separately unless covered by a package.

Entertainment and onboard life

Viking Halogi is built around the idea that time at sea is part of the journey, not a gap between ports. The Living Room sits at the heart of the ship, with generous seating, a calm social atmosphere, and live classical music from the Viking Resident Musicians. Adjacent to it, the Bar — the Clinker Bar — takes its design cues from ancient Norse longships, making it a distinctive setting for an evening drink. Beverages in both carry a separate charge unless your package covers them.

Torshavn® brings a different mood: live music in an atmosphere that recalls Hollywood's golden age of jazz, ideal for cocktails after dinner. The Explorers' Lounge offers two-storey panoramic windows and a relaxed place to watch the river world drift past.

The Theater seats up to 450 guests for lectures, documentaries, films and TED Talks, and can be reconfigured into two HD cinemas — all included in your fare. Outside, the Sports Deck runs to a running track, boccie, mini golf and shuffleboard, while guided fitness classes such as yoga carry a separate charge.

The Main Pool with Retractable Roof means swimming is a year-round option regardless of the weather, and the Infinity Pool — one of the first of its kind at sea — creates the sensation of bathing at the edge of the river itself, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a hot tub alongside.

Wellness on Viking Halogi

The Nordic Spa is open to all guests without a surcharge — access to the sauna and snow grotto is complimentary, while individual treatments and classes are offered separately. The Fitness Center provides treadmills, elliptical machines, exercise bikes and open space for free weights, yoga and pilates; equipment use is included. The onboard Hair Salon rounds out the wellness offering, with styling services and the Royal Nordic Hair Ritual available at a separate charge.

Why book Viking Halogi with CruiseAway

Every sailing on Viking Halogi departs from either Amsterdam or Basel, which means Australian travellers are looking at flights to Europe each way. That is where our DreamAway Packages earn their place: we build the flights, pre- and post-cruise hotels and transfers into a single booking, so the cruise is the centrepiece of a complete European holiday rather than something you arrange piecemeal. Our cruise experts know the Viking River Cruises fleet and can match your cabin grade, fare type and travel dates to your plans. And every booking is covered by our Best Price Guarantee.

All current sailings on Viking Halogi are operated by Viking River Cruises. If you are weighing up ships in the fleet, other options we feature include Viking Astrild, Viking Forseti and Viking Ullur — as well as ocean ships such as Viking Sea, Viking Star and Viking Sky.

Common questions about Viking Halogi

Where does Viking Halogi sail?

Current sailings operate on the Rhine River in Europe, departing from Amsterdam in the Netherlands or Basel in Switzerland. Itineraries run up to nine nights. Because both departure cities require a flight from Australia, CruiseAway can arrange flights, accommodation either side and transfers as part of a DreamAway Package.

When did Viking Halogi enter service?

Viking Halogi was launched in 2026, making her one of the most recently built ships in the Viking River Cruises fleet. Sailings available through CruiseAway depart from September 2026 onward.

Which cabin grade should I book on Viking Halogi?

That depends on how much time you plan to spend on the ship versus ashore. The Standard Stateroom E gives you river views through a picture window at an accessible price. The Veranda Stateroom A adds a private outdoor balcony — worth it if you want morning coffee on your own terrace watching the Rhine go by. The Explorer Suite ES delivers a 270-degree wraparound veranda and significantly more interior space if you want the most the ship offers. Our cruise experts can talk you through the trade-offs. Full layouts are on the Viking Halogi cabins and deck plans page.

What is included in the Viking Halogi cruise fare?

The main dining venues — The Restaurant, World Café, Aquavit Terrace, Mamsen's, Wintergarden and the Pool Grill — are included in your cruise fare, as is access to the pools, the Nordic Spa, the Fitness Center, the Sports Deck and The Theater. The Living Room, Explorers' Lounge, Atrium and Torshavn are also open to all at no entry charge. Speciality dining at Manfredi's, The Chef's Table and The Kitchen Table, most beverages, spa treatments and some fitness classes carry a separate charge.

How do I get to Viking Halogi from Australia?

All current sailings depart from Amsterdam or Basel, so a flight to Europe is part of every trip. CruiseAway can arrange that as part of a DreamAway Package, combining your international flights, any hotel nights before or after the cruise, and transfers into one booking — contact our cruise experts to put that together.
