Viking Einar is a river cruise ship built in 2019, carrying up to 190 guests with a crew of 53 across 95 cabins. At 135 metres in length she is designed to navigate the Rhine and its connecting waterways, keeping guests close to the landscapes, towns and vineyards lining the riverbank. Her sailings with Viking River Cruises run from Amsterdam and Basel, threading through Western Europe on itineraries of up to nine nights.
The main dining venue, The Restaurant, is included in your cruise fare and serves regional specialities alongside timeless classics through floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the passing riverbank. For something more casual, the World Café on Deck 7 Aft offers open kitchens with live cooking, international dishes and premium sushi and seafood, with the option to step directly onto the Aquavit Terrace® and eat in the open air above the water — a signature feature of the Viking fleet.
The Wintergarden on Deck 7 Midship serves complimentary afternoon tea with finger sandwiches, fresh scones, pastries and international teas alongside live classical music. Mamsen's®, located in the Explorers' Lounge on Deck 7, offers Norwegian specialities at no extra charge from breakfast through to dinner, honouring the Nordic heritage that runs through the Viking experience.
For speciality dining, Manfredi's Italian Restaurant® delivers an authentic Italian trattoria atmosphere with à la carte and cover charges. The Chef's Table presents a multi-course tasting menu with sommelier-paired wines by reservation. The Kitchen Table on Deck 1 Aft is a hands-on culinary experience bringing local ingredients and cooking techniques to life. The Pool Grill on Deck 7 rounds out the options with casual poolside bites included in your cruise fare.
The Living Room sits at the heart of the ship, a calm social hub where Viking Resident Musicians play live classical music and curated activities draw guests together — entry is free, with beverages and food charged separately. Torshavn® channels the glamour of a Hollywood jazz lounge with live music and cocktails. The Explorers' Lounge wraps guests in two-storey panoramic views of the river, while the Atrium and the Clinker Bar — whose design evokes ancient Nordic longships — offer further spots to meet fellow travellers. Beverages carry a separate charge at each of these venues unless covered by your package.
Viking Einar carries two pools: the Main Pool with Retractable Roof, heated and usable year-round with evening film screenings on a poolside screen, and the Infinity Pool, one of the first of its kind at sea, with floor-to-ceiling windows that create the sensation of floating at the river's edge. The Pool Bar serves the poolside area.
The Nordic Spa is open to all guests as a complimentary wellness space — the sauna and snow grotto are included, while individual treatments and classes carry a separate charge. The Fitness Center offers treadmills, elliptical machines, exercise bikes and open space for free weights, yoga and pilates, with equipment use complimentary. The Hair Salon provides styling and the Royal Nordic Hair Ritual at an additional charge. The Sports Deck adds a running track, boccie, mini golf and shuffleboard; guided yoga classes on deck carry a separate fee. The Theater — with capacity for up to 450 guests — hosts lectures, TED Talks, films and documentaries, and can be divided into two HD cinemas. Admission is included in your fare.
Every cabin aboard accommodates two guests, and the range spans three grades — full details and deck plans are on the Viking Einar cabins and deck plans page.
The Explorer Suite (ES) at 41.3 m² is the most spacious grade aboard, with a wraparound veranda delivering panoramic 270-degree views across the river — a fitting choice for guests who want the landscape to be ever-present. The Veranda Stateroom (A) at 19.0 m² provides a private full-size outdoor veranda for fresh air and river views. The Outside Stateroom (E) at 13.9 m² is a well-considered river-view cabin with a half-height picture window that brings in natural light and river scenery.
Every sailing on Viking Einar departs from either Amsterdam in the Netherlands or Basel in Switzerland, which means flying from Australia is part of the plan. CruiseAway treats that as an advantage rather than a complication: the cruise sits in the middle of a longer trip, and we book the flights, the hotel either side and the transfers as one holiday through our DreamAway Packages. Our cruise experts know these ships and fares in detail, and our Best Price Guarantee means you book with confidence. Sailings currently available start from A$4,095pp*.

Viking Einar sails the Rhine River and Western Europe on itineraries departing from Amsterdam, Netherlands and Basel, Switzerland. Current sailings run under the Viking River Cruises flag with itineraries of up to nine nights through the heart of Europe.
It depends on how much time you plan to spend on your private outdoor space. If river views from a wraparound veranda matter — particularly for early-morning and late-evening scenery — the Explorer Suite at 41.3 m² is the ship's finest option. If a private veranda is the priority but at a more compact footprint, the Veranda Stateroom at 19.0 m² delivers that. If you prefer a well-priced river-view room without a balcony, the Outside Stateroom at 13.9 m² with its picture window is a sensible choice. Our cruise experts can walk through the options with you.
Your cruise fare covers dining at The Restaurant, World Café, Pool Grill, Mamsen's and the Wintergarden afternoon tea, access to the Main Pool, Infinity Pool, Nordic Spa facilities, Fitness Center, Sports Deck, The Theater and The Living Room. Shore excursion programmes, speciality dining at Manfredi's, The Chef's Table and The Kitchen Table, beverages at most bars, and individual spa treatments and classes carry separate charges. Always confirm your specific fare's inclusions when booking, as package options vary.
Yes — all current sailings depart from Amsterdam or Basel, so guests travelling from Australia will need to fly. CruiseAway can package the flights, pre- or post-cruise hotels and transfers together with the cruise itself through DreamAway Packages, so the whole trip is handled in a single booking.
Viking River Cruises operates a broad fleet. Other ships you may be considering include Viking Astrild, Viking Forseti and Viking Ullur on the river side, and Viking Sea, Viking Star and Viking Sky in the ocean fleet.
