Viking Dagur is a 135-metre river ship built in 2026 for Viking River Cruises, carrying up to 190 guests with a crew of 53 across 95 cabins. She sails exclusively on the Rhine, with departures from Basel, Switzerland, Trier, Germany and Amsterdam. Sailings currently on offer run to nine nights, departing from late September 2026.
Viking Dagur offers a full range of included and speciality dining venues, from a sweeping main restaurant to casual poolside bites and authentic Nordic flavours.
The Restaurant is the ship's main dining room, with floor-to-ceiling windows framing the passing riverbanks while you enjoy regional specialities and classics — all included in your fare. For something more casual, the World Café features open kitchens with live cooking and a choice of international dishes, including premium sushi and seafood, and spills out onto the Aquavit Terrace® for al fresco meals directly above the water. The Pool Grill keeps things informal poolside, with freshly prepared dishes and a salad bar, also included.
The Wintergarden is a particular highlight: complimentary afternoon tea with finger sandwiches, scones, pastries and international teas, accompanied by live classical music beside the main pool. Mamsen's®, located in the Explorers' Lounge, serves Norwegian specialities from breakfast through to dinner at no extra cost — a nod to Nordic heritage that sets Viking apart.
For speciality dining, Manfredi's Italian Restaurant® recreates a trattoria atmosphere with authentic Italian cuisine and a private dining room option, at an additional cover charge. The Chef's Table offers a multi-course tasting menu paired by sommeliers, by reservation. The Kitchen Table is an interactive culinary experience built around regional ingredients — speak to Guest Services about availability and pricing when you board.
Viking Dagur's social spaces are designed to draw guests together without ever feeling crowded, given the intimate scale of 190 passengers.
The Living Room sits at the heart of the ship, with generous seating, a calm atmosphere and live classical music from the Viking Resident Musicians — entry is free, with beverages charged separately. Torshavn® takes inspiration from Hollywood's golden-age jazz lounges, making it the natural spot for cocktails and live music in the evening. The Explorers' Lounge wraps guests in two-storey panoramic windows, while the Nordic-designed Clinker Bar in the Living Room atrium evokes the lines of ancient longships.
For entertainment, The Theater seats up to 450 and screens lectures, films and TED Talks on a large screen; it can also be divided into two HD cinemas. All admission is included in your fare.
The Nordic Spa is open to all guests at no charge — individual treatments and classes are priced separately — and features a sauna and snow grotto. The complimentary Fitness Centre is equipped with treadmills, elliptical machines and exercise bikes, with open space for yoga and pilates (some guided classes carry a charge). The Hair Salon offers a full menu of styling services including the Royal Nordic Hair Ritual, charged separately.
On deck, the Main Pool is heated and covered by a retractable roof for year-round swimming; evening film screenings on the poolside screen are a regular fixture. The Infinity Pool — one of the first of its kind at sea — has floor-to-ceiling windows that make it feel as though you're floating within the destination itself, with a hot tub alongside. The Sports Deck adds a running track, boccie, mini golf and shuffleboard, all included in your fare.
Viking Dagur carries three cabin grades, all sleeping two, and every one connects you to the Rhine through private outdoor access or open-air river views. Full layouts and deck-by-deck plans are on the Viking Dagur cabins and deck plans page.
All current sailings operate on the Rhine in Europe under Viking River Cruises, with voyages of up to nine nights departing from late September 2026. Embarkation ports include Basel in Switzerland, Trier in Germany, and Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Because all ports are in Europe, every sailing involves flying from Australia — CruiseAway can arrange the flights, hotel nights either side and all transfers as a single DreamAway Package, so the cruise sits neatly in the middle of a complete holiday.
Prices start from A$4,395pp* for currently available departures. Browse all sailings by departure port: Basel departures, Trier departures, or Amsterdam departures.
CruiseAway's Best Price Guarantee means you won't pay more by booking here. Our cruise experts know Viking River Cruises' fares and cabin grades in detail and can help you choose between an Explorer Suite veranda and a French Balcony stateroom based on your actual travel style — not a generic recommendation. And because reaching the Rhine from Australia means organising flights and likely a hotel stay in Basel, Trier or Amsterdam, our DreamAway Packages bundle everything into one booking so nothing falls through the gaps.
Viking Dagur was built in 2026, making her one of the newest ships in the Viking River Cruises fleet. The earliest departures currently on sale with CruiseAway depart from late September 2026.
Yes — all current sailings depart from European ports (Basel, Trier or Amsterdam), so travellers from Australia will need to fly. CruiseAway can arrange flights, pre- or post-cruise hotel nights and transfers as part of a DreamAway Package, putting everything on a single booking.
If outdoor space and panoramic river views are your priority, the 41.3 m² Explorer Suite with its 270-degree wraparound veranda is the standout choice. The 19.0 m² Veranda Stateroom A gives you a private full-size veranda at a smaller footprint. The 12.5 m² French Balcony Stateroom C suits guests who want the feel of open air without a full veranda — ideal if you spend most of your time in the ship's social spaces. Our cruise experts can talk through the trade-offs for your specific sailing.
Your fare covers The Restaurant, World Café, Pool Grill, Aquavit Terrace, Mamsen's and Wintergarden dining, as well as access to the Main Pool, Infinity Pool, Nordic Spa, Fitness Centre, Sports Deck and The Theater. Speciality dining at Manfredi's Italian Restaurant and The Chef's Table, most beverages, spa treatments and some fitness classes carry separate charges. Check your specific fare inclusions when booking, as packages vary.
