Viking Annar is a purpose-built river ship launching in 2026 with Viking River Cruises, designed to carry up to 190 guests along the Rhine with a crew of 53. At 135 metres in length, she accommodates guests across 95 cabins, offering an intimate ratio of crew to guest that defines the Viking river experience. She sails exclusively in Europe, with departures currently available from Basel, Switzerland, Trier, Germany and Amsterdam.
Viking Annar offers three cabin grades, each designed to frame the passing riverscape in a different way. Full details, including deck plans, are on the Viking Annar cabins and deck plans page.
Viking Annar carries a wide range of dining options, from a full-service main restaurant to alfresco poolside eating and interactive culinary experiences.
The Restaurant is the ship's main dining room, included in your cruise fare, with floor-to-ceiling windows framing river views as you work through regional specialities and timeless classics. For something more casual, World Café on Deck 7 Aft features open kitchens with live cooking and a choice of international dishes, including premium sushi and seafood, with indoor seating or access to the Aquavit Terrace® — alfresco dining directly above the water. The Pool Grill on Deck 7 keeps poolside bites relaxed and informal, and the Wintergarden on Deck 7 Midship serves complimentary afternoon tea with finger sandwiches, scones, pastries and classical music beside the main pool.
For a Norwegian touch, Mamsen's® on Deck 7 serves Nordic specialities from breakfast through to dinner at no extra charge, located in the Explorers' Lounge. Guests who prefer a special-occasion dinner can book Manfredi's Italian Restaurant®, where à la carte pricing and cover charges apply, or The Chef's Table, a multi-course tasting menu with wine pairings that carries a reservation fee. The Kitchen Table on Deck 1 Aft brings an interactive cooking experience to life using regional ingredients — confirm whether this is included in your fare or charged separately when you book.
Viking Annar's social spaces are designed around unhurried conversation, live music and long views over the water.
The Living Room sits at the heart of the ship, with generous seating, live classical music from the Viking Resident Musicians and curated activities — the social hub for guests who want to connect rather than retreat. Torshavn® channels the atmosphere of Hollywood's jazz age, with live music and cocktails in an intimate setting. The Explorers' Lounge frames the passing scenery through two-storey panoramic windows, and the Atrium offers a bright central meeting point with cocktails charged separately. The Clinker Bar, designed to evoke Nordic longships, sits within the Living Room atrium and carries a distinct character for an evening drink.
The Theater seats up to 450 guests for lectures, films and TED Talks, and can be divided into two HD cinema screens depending on the programme — all included in your fare. The Sports Deck carries a running track, boccie, mini golf and shuffleboard, with guided classes such as yoga charged separately.
The Nordic Spa is open to all guests without charge, and includes a sauna and snow grotto; individual treatments and classes carry a separate fee. The Fitness Centre provides treadmills, elliptical machines, exercise bikes and free-weight space at no extra cost, with some classes charged separately. The Hair Salon offers washing, cutting, styling and the Royal Nordic Hair Ritual, with services charged individually.
The ship also has two pool options: the Main Pool with Retractable Roof allows year-round swimming regardless of the weather, with a large poolside screen for evening films, and the Infinity Pool — one of the first of its kind at sea — features floor-to-ceiling windows that place you at the centre of your surroundings, with a hot tub and teak surround.
All current sailings on Viking Annar run along the Rhine in Europe, departing from three cities. Basel in Switzerland is the most frequent starting point, followed by Trier in Germany and Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Itineraries run up to nine nights, departing from 29 September 2026. Because all ports are in Europe, every sailing involves a flight from Australia — which is why CruiseAway builds these as complete holidays: flights, hotel nights either side and transfers, all on one booking through our DreamAway Packages.
Our cruise experts know Viking River Cruises fares and can match you to the cabin grade and inclusions that suit how you travel. With our Best Price Guarantee and DreamAway Packages covering every element of the trip — flight, transfer, hotel and cruise — there is nothing to piece together yourself. Prices start from A$4,095pp* for sailings departing from late September 2026.
Viking Annar is a new ship, built in 2026. The earliest departures currently on sale leave from 29 September 2026.
If outdoor river time matters most to you, the Explorer Suite's wraparound veranda with 270-degree views is the ship's standout option. For guests who want private outdoor access without the premium footprint, the Veranda Stateroom A at 19.0 m² provides a full-size private veranda with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors. The French Balcony Stateroom C at 12.5 m² is the most compact and cost-effective choice, with floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open directly to the river air. Full layouts are on the cabins and deck plans page.
All Viking Annar sailings on sale depart from ports in Switzerland, Germany or the Netherlands, so every booking from Australia involves flying to Europe. CruiseAway can include flights, transfers and hotel nights through a DreamAway Package — ask our cruise experts to put the whole trip together in one booking.
The Restaurant, World Café, Aquavit Terrace, Pool Grill, Wintergarden and Mamsen's are all included in your fare, as is access to The Nordic Spa, Fitness Centre, Main Pool, Infinity Pool, Sports Deck and The Theater. Speciality dining at Manfredi's Italian Restaurant and The Chef's Table carries additional charges, as do most beverages, spa treatments and guided fitness classes. The Kitchen Table's inclusion depends on your specific fare — confirm with your cruise expert at the time of booking.
