Choose Cruise ExpertGet on board one of the two Ambassador Cruise Line ships to find out why nine out of ten past passengers say they'd recommend it to friends and family. Ambassador is a British cruise line, specializing in premium value voyages all over the world. Check out your own backyard on sailings around Australia and New Zealand, or wander out and explore Europe, South Africa, Asia and much more.
Enjoy West End-style entertainment and feel spoilt with impeccable service on board. Almost everything is included in the price of your Ambassador cruise holiday, starting with beautiful accommodation and full-board cuisine and ending with daytime activities, a range of fitness classes and Gala Parties.
Ambassador’s UK departure ports are one of its genuine selling points for British travellers, but Australian passengers should plan their London arrival carefully — Tilbury is roughly 40 km east of central London and not served by standard rail connections, so build in a transfer and at least one hotel night before embarkation. If you’re torn between Ambience and Ambition, check the specific departure port for your preferred sailing: the two ships don’t always mirror each other’s schedules, and some regional ports like Dundee or Bristol are served by only one of them in any given season. Call us before you book and we’ll tell you which ship is operating your date.
Ambassador Cruise Line is built around a simple idea: proper British cruising, departing from ports you can drive to, at prices that don’t demand a second mortgage. The atmosphere on board leans relaxed and sociable — think pub lounges, gala nights with a Baked Alaska Parade, floor-to-ceiling observatory windows, and enough dining variety to suit a fussy group travelling together. If you’ve sailed with the big American mega-lines and found them a little overwhelming, or if you simply want a ship that feels like it was made for British and Australian tastes, Ambassador is worth a serious look.
The two main ships operating the bulk of the programme are Ambience and Ambition. Both carry a similar personality — mid-size, with enough bars, lounges and deck space to never feel crowded, but small enough that you quickly learn your way around. Ambience’s cabins and deck plans and Ambition’s cabins and deck plans are worth browsing before you call us, because cabin grade makes a genuine difference to the price and experience on these ships.
Onboard dining spans a wide range without being pretentious about it. The Buckingham Restaurant handles breakfast through to dinner, with gala evenings and the traditional Baked Alaska Parade a highlight. Borough Market offers a casual buffet drawing on global cuisines — Asian fusion, fish and chips, vegetarian options and desserts — all included in your fare. When you want something more considered, Saffron serves Indian and Goan cuisine in an intimate setting, and the Chef’s Table offers a nine-course tasting menu composed by the executive chef, with optional wine pairings. The Alfresco Grill on the open deck is included and ideal for a lazy lunch at sea.
Bar life is genuinely varied. The Observatory is a standout — panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows make it perfect for watching for wildlife on a Norwegian fjord run or simply gazing at the horizon. The Botanical Lounge specialises in gin and personalised cocktails, Raffles Bar channels 1920s elegance, and the Purple Turtle delivers an authentic British pub atmosphere if that’s what the evening calls for.
The heart of the programme is the British Isles, which makes up the largest share of the sailing calendar. Itineraries loop around the coast of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, calling at ports most cruise lines skip entirely. The second-biggest region is Norway, covering the fjords and, on longer voyages, the Arctic Ocean. Beyond Europe, Ambassador also runs sailings to the Caribbean, with departures from Bridgetown, Barbados, as well as itineraries touching Africa and transatlantic crossings that connect the UK and Caribbean programmes.
What sets Ambassador apart operationally is its network of UK departure ports. The majority of sailings leave from Tilbury (London), which is the line’s home base, but you can also join from Liverpool, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Belfast, Dundee, Portsmouth and Bristol. For many passengers, this is the line’s single greatest advantage — the cruise itself is the whole journey, not a tired end-piece after a long-haul flight.
If you do want to combine the cruise with time on either side — or if you’re travelling from Australia and need flights and a London hotel — our DreamAway Packages handle flights, hotels and transfers in one booking alongside the cruise.
Ambassador appeals strongly to travellers who value a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere; who prefer sailing from a UK port over flying to one; and who want genuine variety in their itinerary without the scale of a 5,000-passenger vessel. The line is popular with solo travellers (the UK departure ports keep travel costs down), couples who enjoy a classic British cruise experience, and groups of friends or family who want a ship with enough going on that everyone finds their corner — whether that’s the pub, the gin bar or the observatory.
Voyages range from a single overnight to 45 nights, with a typical sailing running around 11 nights — long enough to feel like a proper holiday, short enough to fit around work or other commitments. If you’re considering European cruising more broadly, or want to compare Mediterranean sailings in 2026 or in 2027, Ambassador’s programme sits alongside many other options we carry.
Fares on Ambassador sailings start from A$225 pp*, with itineraries departing from late 2026. Because every sailing departs from the UK or Barbados, Australian travellers are booking the cruise as the centrepiece of a longer trip — our cruise experts will help you wrap flights, hotels and transfers around it as a single DreamAway Package, so nothing falls between the cracks. Whichever ship or itinerary you’re drawn to, we’ll help you match the right cabin grade and fare inclusions to your travel style, with our Best Price Guarantee backing every booking.
