Viking Fjolvar entered service in 2026 as one of the newest ships in the Viking River Cruises fleet. Built to carry 168 guests in the care of 46 crew across 84 cabins and 125 metres of hull, she is an intimate ship by design — the crew-to-guest ratio means attentive, unhurried service from the moment you board. She sails the rivers of France, currently departing from Paris on itineraries of up to seven nights. Explore the full range of Viking River Cruises offers to see where else the fleet travels.
Three cabin grades are available aboard Viking Fjolvar, each sleeping two guests and designed to make the passing riverscape part of your stay. Full deck plans and every grade side by side are on the Viking Fjolvar cabins and deck plans page.
Prices for sailings from Paris, France start from A$4,995pp*. Our cruise experts can walk you through which grade suits your budget and the way you like to travel.
Viking Fjolvar offers a full suite of dining venues, from a complimentary main restaurant to speciality options that carry a separate charge.
The Restaurant is the main included dining room, where floor-to-ceiling windows frame the river while you work through regional specialities and timeless classics. Alongside it, World Café on Deck 7 Aft runs open kitchens with live cooking, international dishes, and premium sushi and seafood — all included in your onboard credit. The Pool Grill on Deck 7 keeps things casual with fresh poolside dishes and a small salad bar, also included in your fare.
For something more ceremonial, the Wintergarden on Deck 7 Midship serves complimentary afternoon tea — fine finger sandwiches, fresh scones, pastries, and international teas with live classical music beside the main pool. Mamsen's, located in the Explorers' Lounge on Deck 7, brings Norwegian home cooking to every meal of the day at no extra charge.
Speciality dining carries a separate reservation fee or à la carte charge. Manfredi's Italian Restaurant recreates a trattoria atmosphere with authentic Italian classics and a private dining room option. The Chef's Table offers a sommelier-curated multi-course tasting menu. The Kitchen Table on Deck 1 Aft is an interactive culinary experience built around regional ingredients — confirm inclusion status when you book. The Aquavit Terrace sits directly above the water and is included in your onboard credit, offering more outdoor dining space than many river ships manage.
The social heart of the ship is The Living Room, where generous seating, a calm atmosphere and live classical music from Viking's Resident Musicians draw guests together throughout the day. Entry is included; beverages and food are charged separately unless covered by your package. The Clinker Bar within the Living Room atrium takes its design cues from ancient Nordic longships, giving your evening drink a distinctive setting.
Torshavn channels the atmosphere of a golden-age Hollywood jazz lounge, with live music and cocktails every evening (beverages charged separately). The Explorers' Lounge wraps two-storey panoramic windows around a relaxed space for watching the world drift past — food and beverages charged separately. The central Atrium provides a lighter, airier meeting point where you can strike up conversations over a cocktail.
The Theater seats up to 450 guests for lectures, films, and TED Talks on a large screen, or divides into two HD cinemas depending on the programme — admission is included in your fare, so you can move freely between education and entertainment at no extra cost.
Viking Fjolvar carries two pools. The Main Pool with Retractable Roof is heated and usable in any weather; the roof opens for al fresco swimming when conditions allow, and a large poolside screen shows films in the evening. The Infinity Pool — described as one of the first of its kind at sea — is framed by floor-to-ceiling windows that make it feel as though you are swimming within the destination itself; a hot tub sits alongside it, and the Aquavit Terrace is steps away for evening dining.
The Nordic Spa is complimentary to enter, with individual treatments and classes charged separately. Facilities include a sauna and a snow grotto. The adjacent Fitness Centre provides treadmills, elliptical machines, exercise bikes and free-weight space — equipment use is complimentary, with some classes charged separately. The Hair Salon offers cuts, styling and the Royal Nordic Hair Ritual at a separate charge. Up on the Sports Deck, a running track, boccie, mini golf, and shuffleboard are all included in your fare.
Every current sailing on Viking Fjolvar departs from Paris, which means a transatlantic or long-haul flight from Australia is part of the journey for most guests. CruiseAway's DreamAway Packages are built exactly for this: we combine the cruise with your flights, hotel nights in Paris either side, and all transfers into one holiday on a single booking. Our cruise experts handle the detail so you don't have to coordinate pieces separately. And every booking is backed by CruiseAway's Best Price Guarantee.
If you are weighing up options within the Viking fleet, you can compare Viking Fjolvar against other ships we sell. Viking Sea, Viking Star, and Viking Sky are among the other ships in the fleet, as are Viking Astrild, Viking Forseti, and Viking Ullur. Each sails its own itineraries and may suit a different travel window or destination.
Viking Fjolvar was built in 2026, making her one of the most recently constructed ships in the Viking River Cruises fleet. Sailings currently on sale depart from late September 2026 onwards.
Viking Fjolvar carries a maximum of 168 passengers, served by a crew of 46. That ratio — fewer than three guests per crew member — supports the attentive, personal service style Viking River Cruises is known for.
That depends on how much time you plan to spend on your balcony and how much space matters to you. The Standard Outside Stateroom (E) delivers river views through a picture window at the most accessible price. The Veranda Stateroom (A) adds a private outdoor space if morning coffee on the river is important to you. The Explorer Suite (ES), at 41.3 m² with a wraparound 270-degree veranda, suits guests who want the river to feel genuinely immersive from their own cabin. Our cruise experts are happy to talk through which suits your circumstances.
Your fare covers accommodation, dining in The Restaurant, World Café, Pool Grill, Wintergarden afternoon tea, and Mamsen's, access to The Living Room, The Theater, both pools, The Nordic Spa, the Fitness Centre, and the Sports Deck. Speciality dining venues — including Manfredi's Italian Restaurant, The Chef's Table, and The Kitchen Table — carry à la carte or reservation charges. Beverages at most bars are charged separately unless a beverage package is included in your booking.
All current sailings depart from Paris, France, so Australian guests will need international flights. CruiseAway can arrange the whole trip — flights, hotel nights in Paris, transfers, and the cruise itself — as a single DreamAway Package, so there is nothing to coordinate independently.
