AmaMagna at a glance

AmaMagna launched in 2019 as AmaWaterways' wide-beam Danube ship, built specifically for the river. A few things that define her:

  • 98 cabins across multiple deck categories, welcoming up to 196 guests
  • 83 crew members — one of the highest crew-to-guest ratios on European rivers
  • 135 metres in length, purpose-built for the Danube
  • Two included dining venues plus a swim-up bar pool, walking track and complimentary bicycles

All 13 of the sailings we currently sell on AmaMagna travel the Danube River, departing either from Budapest, Hungary or from Vilshofen, Germany, with itineraries of up to 14 nights.

Dining on AmaMagna

AmaMagna has two included restaurants, both open to all guests at no extra charge. The Main Restaurant is the culinary centrepiece: open seating, river views, and a menu built around regional cuisine included in your fare. For something more intimate, The Chef's Table stages a multi-course tasting menu prepared in front of you by a dedicated chef — also fully included, with no surcharge.

Drinks and snacks beyond the included meals are served in the Main Lounge, the social heart of the ship where you can catch live evening entertainment and listen to destination talks. A Specialty Coffee & Tea Station operates on a complimentary self-service basis throughout the day — useful before an early morning excursion or a slow afternoon on the water.

Onboard life: bars, pool and activities

The Heated Sun-Deck Pool is one of AmaMagna's signature features: a heated outdoor pool on the upper deck with an integrated swim-up bar, so you can order a drink without leaving the water. The open Sun Deck above it provides unobstructed views of the passing riverbanks and occasional alfresco dining.

Guests who want to stay active have several options included in the fare. A Walking Track circles the Sun Deck for jogging or a morning stroll. The Fitness Center carries modern cardio and strength equipment; use is complimentary, though specialist fitness classes carry a separate charge. A Complimentary Bicycle Fleet is available for all guests to explore each port independently — no guided tour required.

When you want to wind down, the Library provides a quiet space with books and games, and the Massage & Hair Salon offers treatments and hairdressing services (charged separately). A Gift Shop rounds out the onboard retail, stocking souvenirs and regional keepsakes.

Cabins and suites on AmaMagna

AmaMagna's 98 cabins range from practical outside cabins to a full owner's suite; full layouts and deck positions are shown on the AmaMagna cabins and deck plans page.

The Owner's Suite (Upper Deck) is the largest accommodation on the ship at 66 m², sleeping up to four guests. It is a balcony category and, at that footprint, gives a genuinely suite-style experience on a river vessel.

The Balcony Suite SA (Violin Deck) offers 33 m² with a suite layout and sleeps up to four — roughly 10 m² more floor space than a standard balcony cabin, making it a strong choice for couples who want extra room or families travelling together.

The Outside Cabin D (Lower Deck) is the entry-level category at 19 m², sleeping two. Being on the lowest deck means it sits in the most stable position on the ship, which suits anyone sensitive to river motion. Our cruise experts can walk you through which grade suits your group and travel style.

Where AmaMagna sails

Every sailing we sell on AmaMagna traces the Danube, one of Europe's great river routes, through Central Europe. Departures split between Budapest in Hungary and Vilshofen in Germany — depending on the itinerary, you board at one end of the route and disembark at the other. Itineraries run up to 14 nights.

Because all departures are in Europe, Australian guests will need to factor in international flights. CruiseAway's DreamAway Packages are designed exactly for this: we bundle the cruise with return flights, hotel nights on either side and all transfers into one booking, treating the cruise as the centrepiece of a longer European trip.

Why book AmaMagna with CruiseAway

CruiseAway holds a Best Price Guarantee across the site, and our cruise experts know AmaWaterways' fares and cabin grades in detail — they can tell you, for example, whether the Violin Deck Balcony Suite earns its premium over the outside cabin for the itinerary you have in mind. Because every AmaMagna departure requires flying from Australia, a DreamAway Package is worth considering: flights, hotels and transfers are confirmed alongside the cruise in a single booking, rather than pieced together separately.

You can read more about the operator and what sailing with them is like on the AmaWaterways cruise page.

Common questions about AmaMagna

Is everything included in the fare on AmaMagna?

The Main Restaurant, The Chef's Table, the Specialty Coffee & Tea Station, the pool, the walking track, the fitness centre, bicycles and library are all included in your cruise fare. Alcoholic drinks beyond any beverage package, spa treatments and specialist fitness classes carry a separate charge.

Which cabin grade is best for a solo or couple travelling on AmaMagna?

For two people, the Outside Cabin D (Lower Deck) at 19 m² is the most affordable entry point and is well-suited to guests who spend most of their time ashore. The Balcony Suite SA on the Violin Deck at 33 m² adds meaningful space and a suite layout if you plan to spend more time in the cabin. Our cruise experts can compare the grades against the specific itinerary you're looking at.

Can I explore ports independently rather than on guided tours?

Yes. AmaMagna carries a complimentary bicycle fleet that any guest can use at each port of call, so independent exploration at your own pace is straightforward and costs nothing extra.

Do I need to arrange flights and hotels separately?

All AmaMagna departures sail the Danube from ports in Hungary or Germany, so Australian guests need international flights. CruiseAway's DreamAway Packages bundle flights, hotels and transfers with the cruise into one booking — there is no need to coordinate separately with multiple suppliers.

Are there other AmaWaterways ships I can consider?

AmaWaterways operates several ships you can compare on CruiseAway, including AmaBella, AmaCello, AmaVida, AmaReina and AmaVerde — each sailing its own set of itineraries. The AmaWaterways cruise page lists the full fleet and current deals.
