AmaVenita at a glance

AmaVenita sails under the AmaWaterways flag on some of Europe's most celebrated river routes. Current sailings cover up to 16 nights and concentrate on three waterways: the Rhine, the Ijssel, and the wider rivers of Western Europe. Departures leave from Amsterdam and Basel — both ports that Australians will need to fly into, so the cruise itself is the centrepiece of a longer trip.

  • Operator: AmaWaterways
  • Primary routes: Rhine River, Ijssel, Western Europe
  • Home ports: Amsterdam, Netherlands; Basel, Switzerland
  • Sailings available: up to 16 nights
  • All sailings from A$4,036pp*

Dining on AmaVenita

AmaVenita offers two distinct dining experiences, both included in your cruise fare. The Main Restaurant is the culinary heart of the ship — open seating means you eat when it suits you, choosing from regional cuisine served with river views framing every meal. For something more theatrical, The Chef's Table seats guests in an intimate space where a dedicated chef prepares a multi-course tasting menu right in front of you, with personalised attention and no extra charge.

Between meals, the Specialty Coffee & Tea Station runs on a self-service basis throughout the day, offering complimentary specialty coffees and teas whenever you want them.

Bars, lounges and socialising

The Main Lounge is where the ship's social life happens. A fully stocked bar sits at its centre, and the space doubles as a venue for port talks from the onboard team and live entertainment in the evenings. Entry is included; drinks are charged separately unless you carry a beverage package.

Sun deck, pool and staying active

The open Sun Deck runs the length of the upper deck and is the ideal place to watch the riverbanks pass — or to dine outside when the weather is right. Set into the same deck, the Heated Sun-Deck Pool comes with an integrated swim-up bar, so you can take a dip and order a drink without stepping out of the water.

For guests who want to stay in shape, the Walking Track on the Sun Deck provides a complimentary space to jog or walk in the open air, while the Fitness Centre is equipped with modern cardio and strength-training equipment at no extra cost (specialist classes carry a separate charge).

One of AmaVenita's most practical touches is the Complimentary Bicycle Fleet. Guests can borrow a bicycle at no charge and explore each port at their own pace — particularly rewarding in the Netherlands, where flat cycling paths lead directly from the quayside into town centres and countryside.

Wellness and other onboard spaces

The Massage & Hair Salon offers a quiet retreat from the deck; the space itself is free to enter, with treatments and hairdressing charged individually. The Library provides a calm spot with books and games, included in your fare. A Gift Shop stocks essentials, souvenirs and regional keepsakes for browsing at leisure.

Cabins and suites on AmaVenita

AmaVenita offers cabin grades to suit different budgets and preferences — full layouts and a deck plan are on the AmaVenita cabins and deck plans page.

The entry-level Ocean-view cabin with French balcony, category B measures 16 m² and features a full-width Panoramic window that lowers to bring in fresh air and open river views directly from the bed — no separate outdoor balcony, but the result is a bright, airy space that connects you to the river without leaving your cabin.

Step up to the Balcony cabin AA at 21 m² and you gain a private outdoor balcony — direct access to fresh air and passing scenery, independent of the public decks.

At the top of the range, Suite SS is the most generous suite on AmaVenita at 27 m², offering the greatest spread of living space on board and a private balcony. It is the suite to choose if space matters most.

Where AmaVenita sails

Current sailings focus on the Rhine and its connected waterways, taking in the landscapes of the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland. The itineraries range from focused Rhine voyages to wider Western Europe routes that trace the Ijssel and beyond. Departures split between Amsterdam — the natural gateway to the Dutch and German river network — and Basel, where the Rhine begins its northward run through some of Europe's most storied wine country.

Booking AmaVenita with CruiseAway

Because Amsterdam and Basel are both overseas ports for Australian travellers, every AmaVenita sailing means flying to the start point. CruiseAway's DreamAway Packages are built precisely for this: our cruise experts combine the river cruise with your international flights, a hotel stay either side of embarkation, and all the transfers between them, so the whole trip comes together on one booking. Our Best Price Guarantee applies across all bookings made through CruiseAway, so you can book with confidence knowing you have the best available price.

Common questions about AmaVenita

Which cabin grade is right for me on AmaVenita?

If maximising space is the priority, Suite SS at 27 m² is the most generous option on the ship and includes a private balcony. Guests who want outdoor space at a smaller footprint will find the 21 m² Balcony cabin AA a strong choice. Travellers happy with a panoramic window in place of a private balcony can save with the 16 m² category B French balcony cabin, which still delivers an open river outlook directly from the bed.

Are bicycles really free to use at every port?

Yes — AmaVenita carries a complimentary bicycle fleet available to all guests at no charge. You can take one ashore at each stop and explore independently, without joining a guided excursion. This is particularly popular along the Dutch and German stretches of the Rhine, where dedicated cycling paths run alongside the river.

Do I need to book restaurants in advance on AmaVenita?

The Main Restaurant operates open seating, meaning there are no fixed dining times and no reservations required — you simply turn up when you are ready. The Chef's Table is an intimate venue, so availability may be limited; it is worth expressing your interest early in the cruise.

What other AmaWaterways ships can I consider?

AmaWaterways operates several other river ships you can explore on CruiseAway: AmaBella, AmaCello, AmaVida, AmaReina and AmaVerde are all in the fleet and available to compare.

Can CruiseAway arrange my flights from Australia to the departure port?

Yes. All current AmaVenita sailings depart from Amsterdam or Basel, so international flights are essential. Our DreamAway Packages cover flights, pre- and post-cruise hotels and transfers alongside the cruise itself, built into a single booking by our cruise experts — so nothing is left to arrange separately.
