AmaSintra at a glance

AmaSintra is AmaWaterways' purpose-built Douro river ship, launched in 2023 and carrying 104 guests in 52 cabins with a crew of 42. At 79.2 metres she fits the river perfectly, and her guest-to-crew ratio means attentive, unhurried service throughout. All current sailings depart from Porto, Portugal, heading into the Douro Valley — one of Europe's great wine-country rivers — and all run to seven nights.

  • Home waters: Douro River, Portugal
  • Cruise line: AmaWaterways

Sailings on AmaSintra currently cover the Douro River and the broader Portugal region, with three departures available through CruiseAway from late September 2026 onward.

Dining on AmaSintra

AmaSintra offers two distinct dining venues, both included in your cruise fare and open to all guests.

The Main Restaurant is the culinary heart of the ship. Open seating times keep mealtimes relaxed and sociable, and the menu leans into regional cuisine — appropriate on a river that runs through one of the world's most celebrated wine and food regions. River views from every table come as standard.

For something more theatrical, The Chef's Table puts a dedicated chef in front of you for a multi-course tasting menu prepared in an intimate setting. It is still included in your cruise fare — there is no extra charge — but the experience is a step apart from the main restaurant in pace and formality.

Throughout the day, the Specialty Coffee & Tea Station is available on a self-service basis at no extra cost, covering everything from morning espresso to an afternoon tea break.

On-board life: bars, deck and leisure

The Main Lounge is where the ship comes alive socially: a fully stocked bar, port talks from the crew, and live entertainment in the evenings. Entry is free; drinks carry a charge unless you hold a beverage package.

On the upper deck, the Sun Deck offers unobstructed open-air views — ideal for watching the terraced vineyards of the Douro Valley slip past. The Heated Sun-Deck Pool sits alongside it, with an integrated swim-up bar so you can stay in the water while you refresh. Both are included in your fare.

Active guests are well served: a Walking Track runs the Sun Deck for jogging or walking in the open air, while the Fitness Centre below has modern cardio and strength-training equipment available at no charge (specialist classes carry a separate fee). One of the most popular inclusions on AmaWaterways ships is the Complimentary Bicycle Fleet — you can borrow a bike at port and explore on your own terms, no guided tour required.

When you want quieter pursuits, the Library holds books and games in a peaceful setting, and the Massage & Hair Salon offers treatments and hairdressing (at a charge) for a moment of genuine pampering. A Gift Shop rounds out the on-board amenities with souvenirs and regional keepsakes.

Cabins and suites on AmaSintra

AmaSintra carries three cabin grades; full layouts and deck positions are shown on the AmaSintra cabins and deck plans page.

Suite S is the most spacious accommodation on board at 30 m², with a private balcony and room for up to four guests. At 10 m² more than any balcony cabin, it is the right choice for guests who want the most living space the ship offers.

Balcony Cabin A comes in at 20 m² and sleeps two. It is the largest of the balcony cabin grades and gives 5 m² more floor space than the outside-window and French balcony grades.

Outside Cabin D is a 15 m² outside-view cabin on the lowest passenger deck, sleeping two. The panoramic window brings in natural light and elevated river views without the balcony premium — a practical choice for guests who plan to spend most of their time on deck or ashore.

Why book AmaSintra with CruiseAway

Because every AmaSintra sailing departs from Porto, flying from Australia is part of the journey. CruiseAway's DreamAway Packages are built for exactly this — our team wraps the international flights, a hotel stay in Porto before or after the cruise, and airport transfers into one booking, so there is nothing left to piece together yourself. Our cruise experts know these AmaWaterways fares in detail and can match you to the right cabin grade and inclusions for your trip. And the CruiseAway Best Price Guarantee means you are not paying more than you should.

Common questions about AmaSintra

What is included in the AmaSintra cruise fare?

The fare covers all meals in the Main Restaurant and The Chef's Table, the Specialty Coffee & Tea Station, access to the Sun Deck, Heated Sun-Deck Pool, Walking Track, Fitness Centre, Library and the complimentary bicycle fleet ashore. The Main Lounge bar, spa treatments and specialist fitness classes carry a separate charge.

Where does AmaSintra sail from, and do I need a flight?

All current sailings depart from Porto, Portugal. Travelling from Australia, you will need an international flight to Porto; CruiseAway can book that alongside your cruise as part of a DreamAway Package, including any hotel nights and transfers you need either side.

How long are the AmaSintra cruises?

All sailings currently available through CruiseAway run to seven nights on the Douro River and the Portugal region, departing from late September 2026.

Which cabin grade is right for me on AmaSintra?

If space and a private outdoor area matter most, the Suite S at 30 m² is the clear choice, with room for up to four guests. Couples who want a balcony without the suite price will find the Balcony Cabin A a comfortable step down at 20 m². The Outside Cabin D suits guests who want natural light and river views at a lower price point — you still get a large panoramic window, and the upper decks are always there for open-air time.

Are there other AmaWaterways ships I could consider?

Yes — CruiseAway also features several other ships in the AmaWaterways fleet, including AmaBella, AmaCello, AmaVida, AmaReina and AmaVerde. Each sails different itineraries, so it is worth comparing routes and departure dates alongside AmaSintra to find the best fit for your travel plans.
