AmaLucia at a glance

AmaLucia launched in 2021 and sails for AmaWaterways, carrying up to 156 guests and looked after by a crew of 51. Her 78 cabins sit across a 135-metre hull, giving the ship the intimacy that defines river cruising: few passengers, attentive service, and scenery that fills every window. She sails Western Europe's river network, with the Rhine as her primary stage.

Dining on AmaLucia

All dining on AmaLucia is open to every guest and included in your cruise fare, so there are no cover charges to navigate at the table.

The Main Restaurant is the culinary heart of the ship — open-seating times, regional cuisine, and river views that shift with every port. Sit where you like, linger as long as you choose, and let the passing landscape do the decorating.

For something more theatrical, The Chef's Table seats guests around an intimate kitchen where a dedicated chef crafts a multi-course tasting menu in front of you. It is a refined experience with personalised attention, and it carries no extra charge. Anytime you need a coffee between meals, the Specialty Coffee & Tea Station is self-service and complimentary.

Bars, lounges and on-board life

The Main Lounge is where AmaLucia's social life happens — cocktails at a fully stocked bar, evening entertainment, and expert talks about the ports ahead. Drinks and food in the lounge are charged separately unless you hold a beverage package, but access itself is open to all.

Up top, the Sun Deck offers unobstructed open-air views and occasional al-fresco dining. The Heated Sun-Deck Pool sits at its centre with an integrated swim-up bar — classic resort comfort on a river ship. When you want quiet rather than conversation, the ship's Library keeps a selection of books and games, included in your fare.

Keeping active on board

AmaLucia gives active guests more than most river ships. The Fitness Center has modern cardio and strength-training equipment at no charge; specialist fitness classes carry a separate fee. The Walking Track on the Sun Deck lets you jog or walk in the open air with the riverbank sliding past. Ashore, the ship's Complimentary Bicycle Fleet is available to all guests — take one out at each port and explore independently, at your own pace, with no guided-tour requirement.

For relaxation, the Massage & Hair Salon offers massage treatments and hairdressing; access is free but treatments themselves carry a charge. Souvenirs and travel essentials are on hand at the Gift Shop.

Cabins on AmaLucia

Every grade is described in full on the AmaLucia cabins and deck plans page, but here is what distinguishes each tier.

The Outside Cabin D (14.9 m², sleeps 2) gives you a fixed outside-view window — natural daylight and riverside scenery without the private balcony premium. It is the most straightforward way to secure a view cabin on board.

The Balcony Cabin AA (21.8 m², sleeps up to 4) steps things up with dual private balconies: a full drop-down window-wall and a step-out outside space, so you can choose between the two depending on the weather and your mood.

At the top of the range, the Suite on Violin Deck (32.5 m², sleeps up to 4) gives you two entirely distinct outdoor spaces — a French balcony for fresh air and an open full outside balcony for private riverside dining and relaxation. That combination is what sets it apart from every other grade.

Where AmaLucia sails

Sailings depart from Amsterdam in the Netherlands and Basel in Switzerland, tracking the Rhine and its connected waterways through some of Europe's most rewarding river scenery. The bulk of the itinerary list covers the Rhine corridor, with a smaller selection reaching the broader Western Europe river network and the Ijssel. Cruises run up to 14 nights. If you would like to search everything currently available across the region, the Europe cruises search and our European cruise deals page both let you filter and compare live sailings.

Booking AmaLucia with CruiseAway

Our cruise experts know AmaWaterways' fares and cabin grades in detail, and they can walk you through which combination suits your travel style and budget. Every booking is covered by our Best Price Guarantee.

Because AmaLucia's home ports — Amsterdam and Basel — both require flying from Australia, every AmaLucia holiday is genuinely a longer trip. Our DreamAway Packages exist precisely for this: we book the flights, the hotel either side and the transfers alongside the cruise, so everything arrives on one itinerary. We also help you choose the cabin grade and fare inclusions that suit your circumstances and put the whole holiday on a single booking.

Common questions about AmaLucia

Which cabin grade offers the most outdoor space on AmaLucia?

The Suite on Violin Deck provides two separate outdoor areas — a French balcony and a full outside balcony — giving you the greatest flexibility for private outdoor time. The Balcony Cabin AA also has dual balcony access, while the Outside Cabin D has a fixed window with no private balcony.

Is food and drink included in an AmaLucia cruise fare?

All dining venues — including The Chef's Table multi-course experience — are included in your cruise fare. The Specialty Coffee & Tea Station is also complimentary. Drinks in the Main Lounge are charged separately unless you hold a beverage package, and spa treatments at the Massage & Hair Salon carry a separate fee.

Can I use the bicycles independently, or are they part of a guided tour?

AmaLucia's onboard bicycle fleet is complimentary for all guests and available for independent use at each port — no guided tour is required. You are free to explore the surrounding area at your own pace.

Do I need to book flights separately for an AmaLucia cruise?

All current sailings depart from Amsterdam or Basel, which means every AmaLucia cruise from Australia involves international flights. CruiseAway's DreamAway Packages bundle the cruise with flights, hotels and transfers into a single booking, so you do not need to arrange the land elements separately.

Which other AmaWaterways ships can I consider?

If you are weighing up options within the AmaWaterways fleet, CruiseAway also has pages for AmaBella, AmaCello, AmaVida, AmaReina and AmaVerde — each sailing their own itineraries, so the right choice often comes down to dates and routes rather than anything else.
