  • Family-friendly ships – Waterslides, kids’ clubs and casual dining make these ships ideal for school holiday sailings.
  • Premium vessels – Expect elegant lounges, speciality restaurants and enrichment programs that dive deeper into Tasmania’s history and produce.

Top Harbours in Tasmania

Tasmania may be compact, but its ports are rich in character and scenery.

Hobart is the star attraction for many travellers enjoying Tasmania by cruise. Ships dock close to Salamanca Place, where sandstone warehouses now house galleries, cafes and weekend markets. A short drive takes you to MONA, one of Australia’s most talked-about museums, or up to the summit of kunanyi for sweeping harbour views.

Port Arthur offers a powerful glimpse into Australia’s convict past. Guided tours through the historic site reveal stories that shaped the nation, set against dramatic coastal cliffs.

Wineglass Bay and the Freycinet Peninsula often feature on scenic cruising days. From the deck of your cruise ship to Tasmania’s east coast, you can admire the curve of white sand and turquoise water without leaving the comfort of your vessel.

Some itineraries also include Bruny Island or scenic cruising along the Tasman Peninsula, where towering sea cliffs and rock formations create unforgettable photo opportunities.

Seasonal Highlights

The main season for a Tasmania cruise runs from spring through to late autumn, when temperatures are mild and ideal for exploring on foot.

  • Spring (September to November) – Gardens bloom and wildlife is active, with fewer crowds in port.
  • Summer (December to February) – Long daylight hours, food festivals and bustling waterfront markets.
  • Autumn (March to May) – Crisp air, golden vineyards and excellent conditions for sightseeing.

Shoulder season departures often offer attractive value, making it a smart time to cruise Tasmania while still enjoying comfortable weather.

Cost of Cruising to Tasmania

One of the biggest advantages of booking a boat cruise to tasmania is the value for money. Your cruise fare typically includes accommodation, main meals, entertainment and many onboard activities.

Shorter itineraries can be surprisingly affordable, particularly during promotional periods. Keep an eye out for earlybird offers, bonus onboard credit and seasonal sales. At CruiseAway, we regularly secure competitive fares across a range of cabin categories, from interior staterooms to balcony cabins perfect for scenic cruising.

When budgeting, consider optional extras such as drinks packages, shore excursions and speciality dining. Our cruise consultants are always on hand to explain inclusions clearly, so there are no surprises.

Alternative Cruise Regions

If you are considering a Tasmania cruise but would like to explore further, there are several appealing options:

Interesting talks such as Cunard Insight. Elegant public rooms. Watching ballroom dancing. Meeting Interesting fellow passengers.
Not much variety in breakfast menu. Lido meal time not long enough. Table assignment not that equitable. Not much activities in the gym.

Shower is small, no side mirror.
