Okayama is the capital city of Okayama Prefecture in the Chugoku region of Japan. It is the site of Kōraku-en, known as one of the top three traditional gardens in Japan, and the black Okayama Castle, which is ranked among the best 100 Japanese castles. The city is famous as the setting of the Japanese fable "Momotarō".

In Hiroshima, due to the Second World War, the are many war monuments and memorials such as the Peace Park, the Peace Tower, and a peace museum. The original Hiroshima Castle (called Carp Castle),was destroyed in 1945 by the atomic bombing. However, it was reconstructed in the 50's and now houses a museum of the history of Hiroshima before World War II.

An island near Hiroshima, the names “Miyajima” and “Itsukushima” can be used interchangeably, and both are commonly used. One of Japan’s more popular spots for tourism, the island is a Unesco World Heritage site, due to it being home to the Itsukushima Shrine. In autumn, the island’s hillsides are awash with beautiful foliage - colorful cherry blossoms and maple leaves. A rural settlement, the island has a complete absence of traffic signals, and the small population of locals take the preservation of their home’s natural environment very seriously.

In the medieval period, Hagi was dominated by the Yoshimi clan, who built Hagi Castle, of which the ruins can be visited today. Hagi is renowned for hagi-yaki, a form of Japanese pottery dating from 1604.

Uwajima is a city located in Ehime Prefecture, Japan. Uwajima has a Date Family Museum which features many historically important objects tied to the history of the region and the Daimyo family Date which ruled this area. Uwajima Castle is also worth a visit. Uwajima is home to an unusual fertility shrine called Taga Shrine- Every July a festival is held in Uwajima known as the Uwajima Ushi-oni Festival, "Gaiya Festival," or the "Warei Shrine Festival." Among the festivities are ushioni teams parading down the street, a dance contest to the town song known as the "Gaiya" dance, traditional dancing, and a bullfight.

Its relatively small size mean Kobe's neighbourhoods are easily traversed on foot, while the subway system is simple to navigate your way around.
