FAQs About South Pacific Cruises

When is the best time to cruise the South Pacific?

The most popular season runs from May to October, when the weather is generally drier and slightly cooler. Expect daytime temperatures in the mid-20s. The summer months can be warmer and more humid, with occasional tropical showers, though fares may be lower.

How long should I cruise for?

Seven-night itineraries are ideal for a quick island escape to New Caledonia or Vanuatu. If you’d like to venture further into French Polynesia or include the Cook Islands, consider 10 to 14 nights for a more immersive experience.

Are South Pacific cruises family-friendly?

Absolutely. Many ships sailing the region feature kids’ clubs, waterslides and family entertainment. Shore days are often beach-focused, making them easy and enjoyable with children.

Do I need a passport?

Yes. Although you’re departing from Australia, most South Pacific destinations are international ports and require a valid passport. Visa requirements vary depending on your itinerary, and our CruiseAway consultants can guide you through the details.

What should I pack?

Lightweight clothing, swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes are essentials. A light jacket is handy for evenings on deck, and don’t forget a waterproof phone pouch for snorkelling days.

Spending time with great friends and making new ones
There were too many feral kids I was very disappointed in the action of unsupervised children. Running up and down outside staterooms, knocking on doors after midnight, yelling and just bad behaviour in lifts. Parents should know what their children are up to not just get on the ship and leave them. I was very disappointed in this cruise but in saying that it was great to mellow, the food was great and so were the staff. I will rethink booking another one for quite a while

The diversity of the crew and the amazing food.
There could have been a greater variety of activities. Also, it felt like we were expected to keep paying more for things on board.

It was really clean and everything I needed. The screen instead of a window showing the outside view, is clever.
