Top Harbours & Destinations from Brisbane

One of the joys of sailing from Brisbane is the variety of destinations within easy reach. Popular ports include:

  • Nouméa, New Caledonia – A blend of French flair and Pacific beauty, with excellent beaches and waterfront cafés.
  • Mystery Island, Vanuatu – Powdery white sand and clear water make this a favourite for snorkelling and swimming.
  • Airlie Beach & the Whitsundays – Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and iconic Whitehaven Beach.
  • New Zealand – Sail across the Tasman to explore dramatic fjords, buzzing cities and rich Māori culture.

Short itineraries often focus on sea days and a single island stop, making 3 day cruises from Brisbane and 3 day cruises Brisbane departures ideal for those who want maximum relaxation with minimal travel time.

Seasonal Sailings from Brisbane

Thanks to Brisbane’s subtropical climate, cruising is a year-round option, though each season brings its own appeal.

  • Summer (December to February) – Prime time for island cruising and festive voyages, including themed Christmas and New Year sailings.
  • Autumn (March to May) – Comfortable temperatures and excellent conditions for South Pacific and New Zealand itineraries.
  • Winter (June to August) – Mild Queensland weather and attractive fares, particularly for a short cruise from Brisbane.
  • Spring (September to November) – Calm seas and ideal conditions for both quick breaks and longer adventures.

If you have limited annual leave, a 4 day cruise can be a smart way to enjoy a midweek escape without dipping too far into your holiday balance.

Cost of Cruising from Brisbane

One of the biggest drawcards of cruising is value for money. Your fare typically includes accommodation, main meals, entertainment and many onboard activities.

  • Short sailings (3–4 nights) – Generally from a few hundred dollars per person, depending on cabin type and season.
  • 7-night cruises – Mid-range pricing with a wide choice of balcony and suite options.
  • Extended voyages – Higher fares reflecting longer durations and more diverse destinations.

At CruiseAway, we regularly secure exclusive offers on short cruises out of Brisbane, as well as earlybird bonuses and last-minute deals. Booking ahead usually means better cabin choice, while flexible travellers can snap up excellent savings closer to departure.

Alternative Cruise Regions

If you’re considering mixing things up, there are also repositioning and one-way itineraries that connect Brisbane with other major ports.

These options are ideal if you’d like to see more of Australia while still enjoying the ease of cruising.

8 day cruise with the Pacific Encounter to Brisbane

We booked regular time dining and found this easier than anytime dining as it pre-booked attendances for us at various restaurants. Booked tender process to go to Conflict Island was good.
The off boarding process (to Brisbane) was fairly tedious and took several hours, mostly of waiting in queues.

3 of us in a balcony room, it was fine.

The diversity of the crew and the amazing food.
There could have been a greater variety of activities. Also, it felt like we were expected to keep paying more for things on board.

Inside Cabin: 4U
It was really clean and everything I needed. The screen instead of a window showing the outside view, is clever.

11 day cruise on board the Pacific Encounter from Brisbane
couplerelaxed
P&O provide an almost-perfect experience in a range of ways: dining, shore tours, entertainment. One of the most impressive aspects were the talks on PNG history, WWII, farming and literacy. That was a real bonus and compensated for the less impressive commentary on the WWII shore tour.
The shore excursions are expensive for what is provided and the commentary on the WWII New Britain tour could have been a lot better. Our guide just didn't know enough, although P&O indicate that the guides are not highly knowledgeable. Perhaps P&O could incentivise them to read up on the subject they are covering, although one was well read. Also, the war museum is badly run down and could do with some expert curating, maybe P&O could provide some funding for this.

The cabin is well designed and the furnishings very good. It is not brand new so there is some wear and tear. The flooring on the balcony needs some work as it was uneven and I had to put a chair on the affected part to avoid tripping on it.
