Travel insurance is an absolute necessity – CruiseAway

  1. Ensure you have a valid passport: Make sure you have at least six months validity on your passport (from your return date to Australia). If you don’t, you won’t be able to board your pre-cruise flight!
  2. Do you need a visa?: Did you know some countries require visas to enter the country? For more information ask your CruiseAway travel agent or head to the DFAT website.
  3. Register your travel plans: It’s always a good idea to register your travel plans with the Australian Federal Government’s smartraveller.gov.au website, so that you can be contacted in the case of an emergency.
  4. Educate yourself! Familiarise yourself with the local laws, road rules and customs of the countries you intend to visit to prevent getting yourself into uncomfortable situations.
  5. Learn some of the local lingo: Not only will you receive a warm welcome from the locals, but you’ll also feel more immersed into the local culture!
  6. Keep an electronic copy of your travel itinerary: Always save an electronic copy of all vital documents or itineraries on a USB or in a saved email folder. This keeps you from the stress of losing lose your hard copy!
  7. Charge all electronic devices: Make sure your mobile phone, ipad, laptop, etc are fully charged before entering a port or airport.
  8. Pack an extra set of clothes in your carry-on bag: It’s a lifesaver in case your luggage is lost or travel plans are delayed and in the case of lengthy layovers.
  9. Pack a small powerboard and universal adapter: This way you can not only charge your electronic devices wherever you are, but several at once!
  10. Social media activity: Be mindful of what you post on social media sites when overseas. Do you want people to know that your house is currently unoccupied?
  11. Turn off mobile data roaming: Roaming occurs when using your phone on another network that doesn’t belong to you provider. This is something many people don’t think about when travelling to other countries when using their mobile phone, only to later receive a huge bill from their phone provider!
  12. Travel Insurance: This is an absolute no-brainer and total necessity. If you require urgent medical attention due to injury or illness on your overseas trip you may be faced with collossal medical bills if you’re not covered by travel insurance.
