Ponant to build world’s first ever underwater lounge bar

Hold on to your lifebuoys cruisers, Ponant is plunging to new depths to raise the bar on cruising.

The luxury French cruise line is building four new cruise ships, each complete with the world’s first underwater lounge bar.

Yes you heard that right – cruise onboard one of these ships from 2018 and you’ll get to sip cocktails under the sea!

Cruise editor Teresa Machan told The Telegraph said of the new ‘Explorer Class’ fleet:

“This is the latest in a raft of exciting developments for cruisers. Passengers will soon have access to purpose-built submarines, onboard amenities akin to those found on a luxury yacht and the ability to cruise to some of the most exciting destinations on the planet.”

Slightly smaller than Ponant’s existing fleet of four yachts, the four new ships will be 127 metres long, be 7 decks in height and comprise of 92 balcony cabins with a total guest capacity of 184 at double occupancy.

The as yet unnammed cruise ships will be fitted with an infinity pool and be certified to sail in Polar Regions.
