Dunedin, on the Otago coast, is a beautiful old traditional NZ city. With its friendly locals ,of the human and animal kind, there is an abundance of character to be experienced in the city. If you have a little more time in the area, then a visit out on the Otago Peninsula is a must. At the far end of the peninsula is the Albatross sanctuary, it is the only mainland colony of Albatross in the World! The views from Taiaroa Head are spectacular over the city and ocean and are not to be missed.
Further back towards the main city the Portobello area which has some lovely beach areas and cafes. They’re well worth the trip to the area on there own.
If you enjoy art and cultural events, then Dunedin has an abundance of them year round. It has a range of galleries and museums open year round, along with special exhibitions throughout the year.
If you would like to see a little more heritage of the area, then in the main city there is the railway station. the station is regarded as the most photographed building in NZ. It is described as ‘the outstanding monument of Edwardian architecture in New Zealand’.
You can also take a tour of New Zealand’s only castle, Larnach Castle. With its 14-hectare garden and grounds, it is a beautiful place to explore and relax. High Tea is a must if you’re visiting the castle.
