The family-run business Heritage Expeditions has 30 years’ experience behind it in top-class eco-friendly cruises in both hemispheres. This cruise line was initially formed in 1985 as a way of increasing awareness of environmental issues and of helping to protect the self-same environment. Its one vessel, the Spirit of Enderby, is an elegant ice-strengthened expedition vessel which was initially used for polar and oceanographic research. Now it takes groups of delighted passengers around UNESCO World Heritage Sites and nature reserves in the most far-flung and perfect landscapes imaginable.
Discover the Ends of the World on a cruise with Heritage Expeditions
With Heritage Expeditions, the choices are endless. Have you ever thought about exploring the isolated Far East of Russia or the untouched wildlife havens of the White Desert? Or if a hotter climate is more your thing, you can sail in serenity around the Solomon Islands or Papua New Guinea. In any of these locations you will discover UNESCO World Heritage sites, nature reserves and the cultures of far-flung indigenous communities. You will feel humbled at the enormous power of nature and at the same time exhilarated. Heritage Expeditions is a pro at organising shore excursions which allow you to get the most out of your surroundings whilst leaving your fragile surroundings untouched when you leave. For instance, travelling to Antarctica will allow you to visit polar bear breeding rounds, ancient settlements and see fantastic species of bird and penguin. All your guides will be expert naturalists.
The Spirit of Enderby – fine dining and cabins
Heritage Expedition’s one ship, the Spirit of Enderby, carries a maximum of 50 passengers and so has an intimate, friendly atmosphere. The ship’s guests are usually made up of bird enthusiasts, photographers, conservationists, and adventurous spirits of all kinds! You will probably spend many an hour in the ship’s delightful bar/library lounge area swapping stories about your areas of interest and discussing the day’s adventures. The lecture room is also a hot spot of interest for passengers to listen to the briefings about the history and culture of the destination. The whole ship is beautifully fitted with wood which adds to the cosy atmosphere on board. Wining and dining on board the Spirit of Enderby will really top off your exciting day; the cuisine is excellent and lovingly prepared by top New Zealand and Australian chefs.
The ship’s cabins are comfortable and spacious. There are many twin cabin shares, half of which have private bathroom facilities. All cabins have outside windows for you to take in the view. The Spirit of Enderby also has luxurious suites for offer. The mini suites come with a double bed and a lounge area, and the top suites have large lounge areas and writing desks. Whatever your budget, there will be a cabin to suit your needs.
