Hungary's capital, offers a unique cultural experience to visitors. Directly on the bank of the Danube, near the Croatian and Serbian border, is the Hungarian town of Mohacs with about 20,000 inhabitants. The town is known especially for its six-day carnival, which annually attracts a large crowd of onlookers.
Osijek is the largest city and the economic and cultural centre of the eastern Croatian. Osijek remains a popular domestic tourist destination for its Baroque style, open spaces and ample recreational opportunities. The most important sights in the city include the main square, the 18th century Baroque citadel, the promenade along the Drava ("promenada") and the suspension pedestrian bridge toward Baranja.
Novi Sad is the second biggest city in Serbia, with a population of 220,000. It is home to the oldest Serbian Institute for Art and Science. The Petrovaradin Fortress and the old town hall are popular attractions for tourists.
Brcko is a town located on the banks of the Sava River in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina. Beig the most ethnically mixed region of Bosnia, it has remained surprisingly untouched by the country's bloody hsitory.
Slavonski Brod is a Croatian port city located by the Sava river. Known for its baroque fortress, which was used as a transit camp during World War II, Slavonski Brod is an important commercial junction for ship, road and rail traffic.
Jasenovac is a village located at the joining point of rivers Una and Sava in Croatia. In August 1941 it was established as an extermination camp governed by the Ustase regime. It was one of the largest concentration camps in Europe known as 'the Auschwitz of the Balkans'.
Sisak is a city located in central Croatia, 57km from the capital city of Zagreb. The city lies at the joining point of three rivers: Kupa, Sava and Odra. The Lonjsko polje Nature Park stretches along the left bank of the river Sava, downstream from Sisak.
Balaton is Europe's largest freshwater lake located in western Hungary. It is one of the country's most popular summer resorts with its beaches, volcanic hills and picturesque towns. There is a wine growing region to the north, a castle to the west and numerous other attractions all arounf the Balaton.
