14 Night Cruise sailing from Auckland to Sydney aboard Volendam.

The Volendam reflects a graceful combination of classic and state-of-the-art features found on board both the ms Rotterdam flagship and the Statendam-class vessels. Special features include an alternative restaurant, a third staircase for convenient access to public rooms and a children's play room, as well as more of the popular mini-suites with verandahs. The Volendam's predominant theme is flowers -- from the 17th to the 21st centuries -- featured in the ship's artwork and interior design elements. The Volendam has 10 passenger decks and a three-deck oval atrium. The atrium is punctuated by a monumental glass sculpture by Luciano Vistosi. Vistosi, one of Italy's leading contemporary glass artists, combines beautiful red lacquered metal and blocks of bluish-green glass, the appearance of which changes as fiber optic lighting reflects different colors through the glass. Lounges and duty-free shops are conveniently located on Promenade and Upper Promenade Decks. The various public rooms provide both intimate and social atmospheres.

Auckland
Set between two sparkling harbors, the "City of Sails" boasts the greatest number of boats per capita of any city in the world. (One, Black Magic, won the 1995 America s Cup!) Here, too, are beautiful beaches, expansive parks, fascinating Polynesian culture.

Tauranga
Site of fierce Maori wars, Tauranga today is a peaceful city in the heart of kiwifruit-growing country. Farther afield: Rotorua, with its spouting geysers and bubbling mud pools, the Waitomo Glow Worm Caves and nocturnal kiwi houses.

Wellington
New Zealand s friendly capital city features gaily painted old wooden houses and a red cable car that takes you up to the Wellington Botanic Gardens and a fine view of the harbor. A must-see is the engaging Te Papa Museum.

Dunedin
Dunedin's Scottish heritage is everywhere, evident in its statue of poet Robert Burns, in the work of its kilt makers and whisky distilleries and in its ornate Victorian train station. Aye, there's even a castle that emphasizes the kinship.

Sydney
First came the Aborigines, 50,000 years ago; then 759 British convicts, followed by a wave of military settlers known as the Rum Corps. The result: Sydney's bold, egalitarian charm. History, opera, opals and koalas are all here.
