Each year, residents of this international community enjoy approximately 250 days in port with extended stays for in-depth exploration and world-renowned special events, such as the star-studded Cannes Film Festival and Monaco's thrilling Grand Prix.

The concept of traveling the world without leaving home was conceived and developed by Norwegian Knut U. Kloster, Jr., the former chairman of Royal Viking Line and Norwegian Cruise Lines. Kloster is also a member of the renowned shipping family that pioneered the modern cruise industry in the early 1960s.

The World has four superb restaurants, each with its own visual style, character and cuisine. Unlike traditional cruise ships, dining is a la carte, and there are neither set menus nor timed seatings. residents and guests dine where they want, when they want. Inspired by the best restaurants from around the world, the ship's many dining opportunities include: contemporary French fusion cuisine at the upscale Portraits; tantalizing seafood, steak and rotisserie specialties at The Marina; Mediterranean cuisine with a Northern Italian flair at the charming, buffet-style Tides; and oriental delights at the unforgettable East sushi bar and restaurant. All restaurants offer a variety of light options and cater to special requests, including kosher, vegetarian and diabetic diets. Breathtaking views enhance every venue, as the ship makes its endless journey around the globe.

Residents and guests also appreciate Fredy's Deli, the superb delicatessen and gourmet market on board. Also functioning as a street café, the market features an array of freshly prepared dishes and breads; produce and cheeses; tempting pastries and take-out party snacks; gourmet coffees and specialty beverages; selected vintages; and other general provisions. Such a gamut of items comes in handy when passengers are in the mood to spend a quiet evening at home, perhaps cooking their favorite recipes in their fully equipped kitchens. For further convenience, the delicatessen offers a 24-hour delivery service for in-room dining that is just a phone call away.

Offering the best from around the globe, The World hosts chefs from premier restaurants to prepare regional cuisine. Local chefs also join the crew at times to hold cooking classes for interested voyagers, and chefs are available by appointment to prepare memorable, gourmet in the private residences.

Connoisseurs have no trouble finding the perfect wine, regardless of the event an everyday meal or important dinner. The World tops its culinary adventure by having a sommelier onboard, overseeing one of the finest wine cellars at sea.
