With Silver Whisper, Silversea has taken its award-winning concept of elegant, all-suite ultra-luxury ships to the next level by incorporating technological innovations and guest suggestions to create this extraordinaryvessel designed to carry Silversea's tradition of all-inclusive luxury and style into the new millennium. The ships have the highest space-to-passenger ratio in the industry at 74, providing more space per passenger than any other cruise ship. Space ratio is derived by dividing a vessel's gross tonnage, which is a volume measurement of its interior space, by its lower berth capacity.
Silversea's service is simply the world's best. It is a philosophy, an attitude - complemented by distinctive European style and inherent in all that we do. Achieving perfection is driven by our desire to please. To see you smile. It begins the moment you step aboard with a warm welcome and a flute of champagne, and follows throughout your voyage with an unspoken anticipation of your needs. Sailing on Silversea's intimate ships is like visiting a friend's home; you're greeted by name and your personal preferences are always remembered.
Southampton
Southampton may not be in every tourist brochure, but this inland city and its environs hold all kinds of attractionsand not a few quiet pleasures. Two important cathedrals, Winchester and Salisbury (pronounced sawls-bree), are found in Hampshire, the county that contains Southampton, as are intriguing market towns, and hundreds of haunting prehistoric remains; Stonehenge, the most famous in nearby Wiltshire, should not be missed. However, these are just the tourist brochure superlatives. Like those who migrate here from every corner of the country in search of upward mobility, anyone spending time in the South of England should rent a car and set out to discover the back-road villages not found in brochures. After a drink in the village pub and a look at the cricket game on the village green, stretch out in a field for a nap.
Lubeck
The Hanseatic City of Lübeck was founded more than 850 years ago. Trade in the Middle Ages with other members of the Hanseatic League and the resulting prosperity have left the city rich in monuments. Well preserved and restored churches and guild halls account for one of Germany's great medieval cities that is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The historic center is a pedestrian zone and closed to vehicular traffic. If you are fond of sweets, don't miss stepping into the Niederegger Café known worldwide for its delicious marzipan. Beer drinkers will be delighted to know that Lübeck is equally known for its locally brewed beer.
The port for Lübeck is Travemünde, located nine miles from the city. In addition to being a busy ferry terminal with connections to Denmark, Finland and Sweden, Travemünde is also a fashionable resort. A gambling casino and resort atmosphere stands in marked contrast to Lübeck's unique historic and architectural features.
Helsinki
A city of the sea, Helsinki was built along a series of odd-shape peninsulas and islands jutting into the Baltic coast along the Gulf of Finland. Streets curve around bays, bridges reach to nearby islands, and ferries play among offshore islands. Having grown dramatically since World War II, Helsinki now absorbs over one-tenth of the Finnish population, and the metropolitan area covers a total of 764 square km (474 square mi) and 315 islands. Most sights, hotels, and restaurants cluster on one peninsula, forming a compact central hub. The greater Helsinki metropolitan area, which includes Espoo and Vantaa, has a total population of more than a million people. Helsinki is a meeting point of eastern and western Europe, which is reflected in its cosmopolitan image, the influx of Russians and Estonians, and a generally multilingual population. Outdoor summer bars (terrassit as the locals call them) and cafés in the city center are perfect for people-watching on a summer afternoon.
St Petersburg
Conceived in the soul of a visionary emperor, St. Petersburg is Russia's adopted child. With its strict geometric lines and perfectly planned architecture, so unlike the Russian cities that came before it, St. Petersburg is almost too European to be Russian. And yet it's too Russian to be European. The city is a powerful combination of both East and West, springing from the will and passion of its founder, Tsar Peter the Great (1672-1725), to guide a resistant Russia into the greater fold of Europe, and consequently into the mainstream of history. That he accomplished, and more. Being almost at sea level, the city appears to rise straight up from its embracing waters. Water weaves its way through the city's streets as well. Incorporating more than 100 islands and crisscrossed by more than 60 rivers and canals, St. Petersburg is often compared, except for its northern appeal, to that other great maritime city, Venice.
Stockholm
Stockholm is a city in the flush of its second youth. In the last 10 years Sweden's capital has emerged from its cold, Nordic shadow to take the stage as a truly international city. Stockholm's 1 million or so inhabitants have, almost as one, realized that their city rivals Paris, London, New York, or any other great metropolis. With this realization comes change. Stockholm has become a city of design, fashion, innovation, technology, and world-class food, pairing homegrown talent with high international standards. The streets are flowing with a young and confident population keen to drink in everything the city has to offer
