Mljet is the most south-easterly of the larger Adriatic islands of the Dalmatia region of Croatia, lying 14 nautical miles southeast of the town of Korcula. The biggest settlement on Mljet and the seat of Commune is the village of Babino Polje. The main ports of the island are Sobra and Polace.
The Lakes of Mljet: the Large One and the Small One are at the northwest end of the island. They are salt water lakes and the two are joined through a shallow channel, and Veliko jezero (Big Lake) has connection with the open sea through the Soline Canal. The small islet of Melita with the earlier Benedictine monastery building and a superb neo-classic church lies in the middle of Veliko jezero. These wonderful lakes form part of The Mljet National Park. The unique harmony of an interesting terrain, rich flora and fauna, and important cultural monuments make this national park one of the most popular to visit in Croatia.

Port Location - The main port on the island is located at Sobra.
Travel Links - The Island of Mljet has no airport. Dubrovnik airport on the mainland provides the main international connection for the island. Mljet has ferry lines with Peljeac peninsula and Dubrovnik. Transportation to the island is provided by Jadrolinija ferry service. Sobra, the main port on the island, is connected to Dubrovnik-Gru and Ston via a car ferry. There is also a ferry between Polače and Trstenik (Peljeac peninsula). There are two type of ferries available: a car ferry and a faster catamaran ferry (2.5 hours and 90 minutes to Dubrovnik, respectively).
