Ancient City of Discovery

One thing every tourist arriving in Ashdod must do is make the journey to the top if Givat Yonah. At the top of this hill visitors will find the burial site of Jonah, the prophet of the Christian faith who was famously swallowed by a whale. From the top of Givat Yonah you will also find the best views of Ashdod and it is a fantastic way to see the port.

There are many great ways to explore the city. Of course you will find private tours but tourists who want to see the city independently can take a tour of the city using the Blue Route tourist signs which will take you to various place of interest around the city as well as explaining their significance.

As mentioned, Ashdod is only about an hour away from Jerusalem. A trip to Jerusalem is truly a magical experience and the biblical city has much to offer tourists of all types. Ashdod is also very close to the Beit Govrin National park. This is yet another ancient site where visitors will find a Roman amphitheater and hundreds of caves which were used by the Iron Age inhabitants for homes and quarries.
