Breathtaking Coastal Views

The Amalfi coastal towns have a long history of tourism and were a popular destination amongst British aristocrats in the 1920s and 1930s. The sights really are breathtaking. There are 13 small picturesque towns to discover showcasing the best of quaint Italian life. The main town is called Amalfi and this is where the coast got its name from. It was actually the first of the Italian maritime republics (the most famous being Venice) which gives the town a unique and long history. It also had a monopoly on trade with the East so it also has an extremely international history. Other notable towns on the Amalfi coast are Atrani and Furore. Atrani is a natural amphitheatre on the sea and has the some of the best views of the area. This gives visitors a great chance to get off the off the tourist trail. Furore is particularly beautiful and is known as the painted village because of the amazing murals painted on the side of white washed walls.
